Jim Nabors

While better known as an actor thanks to his immortal role as television's bumbling Gomer Pyle, Jim Nabors also enjoyed a successful career as an easy listening balladeer. Born June 12, 1930, in Sylacauga, AL, he graduated from the University of Alabama with a degree in business administration, but later found himself working in TV as an apprentice editor; at much the same time, he also pursued a career as a cabaret singer. In 1963, Nabors was hired to guest star on an episode of the popular Andy Griffith Show; although his role as the hayseed Gomer was originally intended as a one-shot, the character proved such a hit with audiences that he went on to become a featured player for the next two seasons. In 1965, Nabors even received his own spinoff series, Gomer Pyle U.S.M.C., in which Gomer appeared as a hapless Marine Corps private. During a 1964 guest appearance on The Danny Kaye Show, Nabors first displayed his vocal prowess; his baritone subsequently graced dozens of albums, including a number of gospel and country efforts. He also had an opportunity to sing on his Gomer Pyle show; during the program's fourth season, in an episode entitled "The Show Must Go On" which aired on November 3, 1967, Nabors sang "The Impossible Dream" from Man of La Mancha, and the song subsequently became a popular part of his repertoire as a performer. From 1969 to 1972 Nabors hosted his own variety program, The Jim Nabors Show, and also regularly performed in concert. ~ Jason Ankeny, Rovi

You people know that he actually wasn't gay! And he was actually burdened by the rumors because it ruined his reputation.
This guy has creeped me out for 50 years. What the hell is he doing on my Pandora ?

so sad . I pray he will, repent toward God and place his faith and trust toward The LORD Jesus Christ ( Acts 20:21)KJB John 3:3,16,17; I Peter 1:23,24; 2 Corinthians 5:17)KJB
Beautiful voice! I have been to many of his concerts and always went on stage when he asked for volunteers. I have a picture with Jim Nabors while on stage made into a poster in my office. I work at a community college and it is a great conversation starter.

Sing was wonderful... of all the singers I have listened to (60+ yrs old)... that is still my very favorite... but often wonder how many people realize just how great his acting skills are... stop and think about Gomer Pyle - having I believe it is/was Four (4) college degrees and fairly sure there were not BAs.
How come the song he sang, Tomorrow Never comes is not on the list? That was a very good song!!
I met Jim Nabors in 1971, when he was here. He signed my autograph book. I lost it now. Then late husband, daughter, and me saw him again in 1993 I believe. But we didn't get his autograph at that time.
I want to here Jim Neighbors sing sleigh ride
What a surprise when a friend of mine gave me a LP with the best of Jim Nabors, who I knew only as the dumb Gomer Pyle in black and white tv era!
When I read LP's presentation and listened I realized, once again, appearances is nothing!

What will they do at the Indy 500 when he chooses to retire? "Back Home Again in Indiana" would never be the same.

The Christmas album is a family treasure. It's a tradition to play entire album on Christmas Eve.
I have enjoyed his songs for a long time. Once when I was in Ny on vacation I met him in the lobby of a NY hotel and he signed the hotel card for me. My husband put it in a little frame, because he knew I enjoyed his songs. I still have that card.
Talented actor / singer and a fine gentleman!
