I have taken to playing this one myself. It's great fun to set a good crunchy tone and chug-chug-chug-chug along with Martin. And you can't go wrong with the song. Just great. Aqualung is still great.
At 17, Locomotive Breath was my favorite song from my favorite album by my favorite band. Still love the song. Saw Tull twice, on the Under Wraps tour, and on the Crest of a Knave tour. Both show were fabulous. The Under Wraps show was my first rock concert.

Last time I heard this from Living With The Past(live-2002) it sounded like a very poor live version. This time it sounds like the original from Aqualung(1971) but it is still shown as from Living With The Past. Thirty one years is just too much time for someone not to notice.

If I evaluate this as a live version I consider it well done. However, if I evaluate it on musicianship it is flat and lacks the energy and the intensity of the original version on Aqualung. Since many comments are favorable I guess it's just a matter of personal opinion.
I caught the 2008 Tull show at Red Rocks last summer, and Locomotive Breath was the epitome of "heavy". We appreciate and enjoy Tull for their lyric, harmonic, melodic, and rhythmic approach to music, and sometimes forget what a "heavy rock band" they really are.
