Born on May 20, 1958 in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin, Jane Wiedlin had her first success as the guitarist in the Go-Gos, playing on classic iconic singles like We Got the Beat and Our Lips Are Sealed that helped make them the most popular female group to emerge from the punk/new wave boom of the late '70s and early '80s. Creatively restless, Wiedlin left the band in 1984, releasing a charting solo single, Blue Kiss, and a self-titled solo debut, Jane Wiedlin, a year later in 1985. She also pursued an acting career and appeared in several films, including Bill & Teds Excellent Adventure and Clue, and added her distinct voice-overs to the television shows King of the Hill, Batman: The Animated Series, Mission Hill, and Pinky and the Brain, plus all three Scooby Doo films. Wiedlin released a second solo album, Fur, in 1988, which yielded the chart hit Rush Hour, and followed it in 1990 with Tangled, which in turn yielded the MTV hit World on Fire. That same year the Go-Gos reunited for a benefit for PETA, returning again four years later in 1994 for yet another reunion and tour. Wiedlin sang with FroSTed on Cold, the groups 1996 debut album, which was partially co-written by Charlotte Caffey, another former Go-Gos member. The Go-Gos reunited once again in 2000, this time releasing a new album, God Bless the Go-Go's, a year later in 2001. That same year, Wiedlin released her first solo album in over a decade, Kissproof World, on her own Painful Discs label. ~ Steve Leggett, Rovi
I definitely agree with Silas Whowood about the "Tangled" album! It was that song that originally caught my fancy, and led me to listen to more of her music. Sure wish they would add it to the library!
Jane Weidlin is pop music with a story, view and a message. Some of her songs are about friendship, love, politics ,people and animal rights. She has had a mixed bag of styles of music and diffrent attempts of getting her music heard. Its could for a person to try more than one thing than just to do the same old thing over and over. Her band frosted had one of my favorite albums from her collection and she has current music she is working on on myspace.com
I am glad to see Pandora has some Jane on it. They do not have the "Tangled" album though! That is my favorite. C'mon Pandora! I have always been tired of seeing Jane's work maligned. Jane is Jane. She may not be the greatest artist of all-time, but who cares? She does not take herself serious and has fun. The solo Belinda Carlisle often comes off so pretentious. I think Jane's fans have fun with her music and love her style. That is great! Go Jane!
She also has a very cool cameo in Star Trek IV as one of the Starfleet captains reporting their ship's distress when the probe aproaches Earth. She also had a very cool duet called 'Cool Places,' but I can't remember the name of the guy she was singing with. Very cool song, and the video was cool, too.
