Isham Jones

Isham Jones led and broke up several bands during the 1920s and '30s, but his greatest legacy is as a songwriter, having composed "It Had to Be You," "On the Alamo," "I'll See You in My Dreams," "The One I Love Belongs to Somebody Else," and "There Is No Greater Love," among others. Although he was originally a saxophonist and pianist, Isham Jones did not take any real solos with his bands. In the early '20s, his outfit featured trumpeter Louis Panico, a pretty good soloist for 1921. Jones recorded prolifically during 1920-1927, with most selections being jazz-oriented dance band performances. While his 1929-1932 recordings are more commercial, the musicianship is high and the melodic renditions are not without interest. Jones' 1932-1936 big band became the nucleus of the first Woody Herman Orchestra when Isham Jones decided to temporarily retire. He had another band in 1937 and recorded as late as 1947, but it is for his songs that he will always be remembered. ~ Scott Yanow, Rovi

I feel like I'm watching looney tunes all over again

Absolutely, that is Bing Crosby singing. No question.
Mislabeled cut. This is Bing but I don't think that was Isham Jones accompanying him. John Scott Trotter maybe?

I was having trouble making sense of these comments. Then I realized the comments are linked to the artist. So when you're talking about a bandleader, the vocalist could indeed be one of a wide range of people.
I'm impressed that a man whose name I never knew wrote such lovely songs as: It Had to Be You, I'll See Yo In My Dreams, The One I Love Belongs to Somebody Else -- fabulous songs I have always admired -- all written by Isham Jones -- I hope there's a heaven and I hope he's in it!

This has the wonderful sound that we all associate with late 20s and early 30s, very nostalgic.

Thanks for the information, Joe Custer. : )
Bing was a great singer.

This is Bing singing. Isham is the bandleader.
Very nice sounds. I have been enjoying for hours.
He started singing nearly ten years before Bing Crosby. So who was imitating who?
I'm sorry, but this is such an unabashed rip off of Bing that I think it's useless. The musical quality is alright but it adds nothing to the archives of music other than being emblematic of a lot of sound-alike drivel from the period. The worst scam artists picked on poor Black artists who sold their compositions for 5 or 10 dollars to folks like Glenn Miller. His songbook , or that magic sound, was nothing more than the poor Black artists compositions from the late 20's and 30's.
:)
A little jazz, but i like it, so who cares.

Interesting stuff. He's sounds like Bing Crosby.
Isham Jones backed Al Jolson on several of his recordings including California, Here I Come. He also backed Bing on Sweet Georgia Brown.
I am in love with the 1920---1950 songs & artists ,
I WAS BORN IN THE WRONG DECADE...

If you're standing still listening to this song, check your pulse, because you must be dead!
YOWZA!
If that's not Jolson singing "California Here I Come," then either he mirrored Jones, or vice versa. It would be interesting to know.
Line up Gents for some bathtub gin!
A great band leader and song writer for young lovers. He played in Milwaukee a lot. Don Henning
This artist is interesting to me only because his first name is the same first name as my biological father, and I have never before heard that name!
Funny...I hear Bing Crosby singing Sweet Georgia Brown!

I believe this is incorrectly labeled. This artist is definitely Al Jolson singing.
