In Flames

After leaving Ceremonial Oath to form In Flames, founding member and guitarist Jesper Strömblad saw this project as a way of expressing his songwriting creativity rather than being stuck in the background. With the added influences of Iron Maiden and Black Sabbath, along with his own touch of aggressive metal that overwhelmed his home country of Sweden, Wrong Again Records took notice and released In Flames' 1993 debut, Lunar Strain. In the tradition of many other Swedish metal acts, In Flames also had a revolving lineup that changed year after year -- not that this was going to stop them from releasing their next album, Subterranean (1994), before signing to Nuclear Blast Records in 1996.

After putting out The Jester Race album later that year, followed by 1997's Whoracle, In Flames' lineup was finally settled with Björn Gelotte (drums), Anders Fridén (vocals), Peter Iwers (bass), and Daniel Svensson (drums) in addition to Strömblad. To celebrate, the band released its sixth album, Colony, in 1999. Clayman followed in the same vein the next year, and the band even managed to keep the same lineup for this release. The live Tokyo Showdown was released to promote their tour in 2001. Reroute to Remain arrived in 2002, followed by Soundtrack to Your Escape in 2004 and Come Clarity in 2006. In 2008 the band released its ninth studio album, A Sense of Purpose, which featured the single "Mirror's Truth," followed in 2011 by Sounds of a Playground Fading, which was the first release not to include founding guitarist Strömblad, who left the band the previous year. ~ Mike DaRonco, Rovi

Just saw these guys a little bit ago at the Catalyst in Santa Cruz. Their live show is excellent.
yeah they definitely are. elements of groove and thrash at times but overall metalcore at their foundation.
@hanashi Lamb of God isn't metalcore.
Sounds Of A Playground Fading peeps ^-^
hoping for a 2013 release with Jesper

Oh No...I'm In Flames :)
And quit arguing about ur musical preferences. I love metal but also listen to a lot more. There is more to music than aggression. For example, the pixies, they might be giants, misfits, guided by voices, fugazi, and even morrisey and the smiths. They are right up there with in flames and metallica as far as I'm concerned.
For all the people freaking out about the Bio saying bjorn is a drummer, he actually was the drummer all the way through to whoracle. Daniel didn't join the band until colony which is when bjorn switched to guitar. You can also clearly hear the change. Not that bjorns drums were bad, but daniel is the better drummer.
All I want is for Jesper to come back!!!
In Flames I F**king Trust
JESTER FOR LIFE!!!!
LOG too homogeneous metalcore... i t s been done a milion times over. No one can touch the uniqueness of In Flames.
@olliemeserv y Lamb of God.
@olliemeserv y America does...Dig deeper my friend. \m/ IN FLAMES WE TRUST \m/
Those damn Swedes r at it again great. .
In Flames along with the Haunted and Between the Buried and Me are three of the best any kind of Metal bands out today
quite simply, the best and most original heavy metal band to be formed following the advent of grunge. still making the best music to this day.
I have a lot of their material and was finally able to see In Flames at 'HOB' San Diego with Demon Hunter/All Shall Perish/Battl e Cross. It was a great sold out concert and of course In Flames was outstanding! Thank You! For coming back to San Diego!!!! Event was 02-13-13

I LOVE this band. They rock.
Awesome!!! :D
No way! Soundtrack is dope I don't get way everyones gotta hate cuz they started adding more electronic aspects to their songs. It just expands their sound even more which is ultimately what an artist should do, not just keep making the same sounding s**t they made for years
jrkelly2003
this is in my opinion, from the best era of in flames, they lost me after soundtrack,
Hmm, I can't decide which I like more, old stuff or new stuff.
olliemeservy
I wish we Americans could rock as hard as the European bands. I dont know what it is but the sound of European death metal is the best it is so pure. not saying we Americans don't have good metal its just not the same i think its the emo influence or something metal core. Well i guess we have War of ages and All that remains but the are still not the same in flames or soilwork simaler and good in their own right but not the same.

Hi, My name is Heleth Maiden, and my view of Metal is superior to your view of Metal. As such, I am going to insult you, because that will change your view. - F**kin tool
I like metal.... the first metal bands I listened to were Dimmu Borgir, Draconian, and Cradle of Filth. does that count?
You have no idea what Metal even is. Your just b**ches with nothing else better to do but talk s**t online. Hey I've got something you can do how about you actually learn an instrument , skin flute isn't Metal \m/.
agreed.
I hope amp.for_life gets castrated by an angry grelk, then ripped to shreds by a shiiknir.
Dethklok is metal...but it's one of those bands metalheads listen too and don't admit they actually really like...they' r e one of my guilty pleasures lmfao Love the f**king cartoon too.
Their instrumental s**t was Way! Better then there newish s**t. Singer sucks a** and sounds like a little b**ch, waa waa s**t, Just play some f**king DETHKLOK pandora! That's metal. You p**sies!
*about My Sweet Shadow
Cryptopsy, Cannibal Corpse, Necrophagist , Morbid Angel, Death, Mortician... y e a h , In Flames is now part of my favorite list.
Love it
gun to my head i probably slightly prefer the older catalogue as well...but you are missing out if you haven't embraced come clarity or sounds of a playground fading in particular. a sense of purpose remains my least favorite album...but there are still some gems on the album.
I don't like their newer stuff. Whoracle and Colony really blew me away. It was great, almost every song. Then I looked up Mirror's Truth and was so disappointed . It's not bad, I just prefer the heavier material.

Even so, they've always had good choruses. That seemingly won't change.
Good band. Mixes well on my death metal station...so m e h o w .
...just sayin.
rccars411
Soundtrack to Your Escape... translates to the end of their melodic death metal roots. Rest In Flames.
What ever these guys do to their drum kit to get that sound is incredible.. . love this song
Hate ur favorite band... you've blessed me yet onece again. Had no idea Soilwork was a European band. See you blasting emo bands all the time and its funny as hell.
Hey God Of Metal... that's funny being that they're from the same country, these guys have always kicked holy a** so please don't patronise the ney sayers
notatthischo o l
f**king amazing live band, just totally blew me away
also any douche nozzle who says only their old stuff is good or they are not melo-death anymore is a moron and should go away and listen to ABBA or something.
saw these guy in concert about a week ago, incredible. great band to mosh and crowd surf to \m/
F**king Metal for LIFE!
They have yet to disapoint. In flames we trust
