Impaled formed in Oakland, CA, in 1995 as another addition to the infamous East Bay metal scene, which has produced such legends as Possessed, Testament, and Forbidden. Impaled's extremely graphic lyrical content, focused on gore and horror, make them an obvious addition to the gore-metal genre. Founding members Raul Varela (drums) and Sean McGrath (guitar and vocals) recruited Leon del Muerte (guitar and vocals) and Ross Sewage (bass) from the ever-changing Exhumed roster after losing original members Jared Deaver, Ron Dorn, and Jeremy Frye. The new lineup hit the road opening for the likes of Deicide and Suffocation. In 1999 they recorded a split 7" with grindcore masters Cephalic Carnage for Italy's Headfucker Records and in 2000 were signed by Necropolis, which allowed their full-length debut The Dead Shall Dead Remain to find its way out of the coffin. ~ Kevin Odle, Rovi
Impaled absolutely kills!! You gotta like the brutal gore grind to dig these guys, not for the faint of heart...Extreme crunch and excess of brutality, The Last Gasp is INCREDIBLE, ABSOLUTELY CRUSHES!!!!
Whaaaat? I dare you to listen to the Medical Waste ep and say this is generic metal. Granted, the production isn't awesome, and you might never appreciate it if you're not already into cheesy low budget gorror flicks, but aside from the occasional Carcass worship/Deadbolt cover, this band is pretty original in my book.
I have never really gotten this "gore metal" stuff. Cannibal Corpse, Splatterhouse, Severe Torture......Idk, just doesnt really do it for me. Its too one dimensional, too obsessive on sheer gore, brutality, etc...
I am a metal head for sure, love bands like Slayer, High on Fire, DevilDriver, Lamb Of God, Amon Amarth, etc....But this growling, splatter metal that sounds the same every single song is just.....idk. Boring? One dimensional?
I like the darkness, the slower sludy riffs at times thou
Impaled in my opinion is easily one of the best death metal bands out there right now. Their album "Death After Life" is A masterpiece, even though Impaled would probably not agree with that!
