Hybrid began as a trio of remixers based in the Welsh city of Swansea: Mike Truman, Chris Healings, and Lee Mullin. Meeting while going to clubs in the early '90s, the three made their own remixes of recordings, eventually earning assignments from record companies to pursue their hobby professionally. Finally, they were signed to Distinct'ive Records and embarked on making an ambitious first album, Wide Angle, in Moscow, using such talents as singer Julee Cruise and the 90-piece Russian Federal Orchestra. "Finished Symphony," which reached the U.K. singles charts in July 1999, featured the orchestra. It was followed into the charts in September by "If I Survive," featuring Cruise on vocals, and by Wide Angle itself. Picked up for release in the U.S. by Kinetic (distributed by Reprise, a division of major label Warner Records), Wide Angle was reconfigured for its American appearance in September 2000. The group then served as the opening act on Moby's U.S. tour that same fall. A host of full-length material followed during the next three years, including two volumes of the compilation series Remix and Additional Production By as well as the mix album Y4K. The proper studio follow-up to Wide Angle, Morning Sci-Fi, followed in 2003. Perry Farrell and Peter Hook were two of the guest stars featured on 2006s I Choose Noise, an album that a year later was supported by a tour of the U.S. In 2010, Disappear Here introduced songwriter and vocalist Charlotte James as an official bandmember. ~ William Ruhlmann, Rovi
Don't read this because it actually works. You will get kissed on the nearest possible Friday by the love of your life. Tomorrow will be the best day of your life. However if you don't post this you will die in 2 days. Now you've started so don't stop. This is so scary put this on at least 5 songs in 143 minutes when done press f6 and your lovers name will come on the screen in big letters this is scary because it actually works!
you people. i swear. edm is electronic music with a beat (electronic dance music). idm is very specific genre within edm (hence, intelligent dance music). say, like, autechre, aphex twin, or even boards of canada. hybrid could be idm if you like, but it is most definitely edm along with all the other music garrett and jungletheory like. sheesh.
Is it really necessary to berate JSHUT over what's probably just a typo? I doubt he thought the acronym stood for ''Educational Dance Music''. And why does ''Keep It in the Family'' sound like a dramatic version of that flat sixth chord from the X Files theme? Anyway, Hybrid was brilliant in the late 90s and early Zeds. Hadn't heard anything new from them for years until I came here and found they'd been working all this time. Can't wait to hear the progression.

@JSHUT i hope they don't get a Grammy because this is great music, not s**t like the Grammy's. ALSO it's IDM not EDM learn the difference and u might understand where i am coming from. RAVE + DRUGS = EDM. MUSIC + INTELLIGENT = IDM
Following them for years, likely one the most ingenious, talented, and unfortunately UNDERSTATED group of EDM producers to grace the genre. I'm hopeful they eventually receive their GRAMMY due.

If you ever get a chance to see them live *DO IT*...they really know how to rock the house. Their DJ sets are also quite awesome :D
People don't realize they've heard Hybrid's work in the countless television shows and films. They along with Two Steps from Hell are the industry's sleeper cells :)
I Choose Noise is an amazing album - almost every track is a serotonin rush. Hybrid can deliver a musical high to a techno aficionado. And yes, there are hints of the Depeche Mode and NIN, but if you enjoy these artists as much as I do, Hybrid is a nice complement to them both.

I was lucky to see hybrid in small pop up bar show in Cleveland in 2003 as part of the morning sci-fi tour and they are an amazing live act!!
