Hepcat was among the most celebrated bands to emerge from the Southern California ska revival scene of the 1990s, winning fans with their infectious Caribbean melodies, soulful harmonies and swinging rhythms, all informed by elements of reggae, rock steady, R&B and jazz. Comprising vocalists Greg Lee and Alex Desert, keyboardist Deston Berry, guitarist Aaron Owens, bassist Dave Fuentes, saxophonists Efren Santana and Raul Talavera, trumpeter Kincaid Smith and drummer Scott Abels, Hepcat was formed in 1989; word quickly spread, and in 1993 they issued their debut LP, Out of Nowhere. After 1996's Scientific, they signed to Epitaph, touring as a featured artist on the following year's Warped Tour before releasing their third LP, Right on Time, in 1998 and Push N' Shove followed in summer 2000. ~ Jason Ankeny, Rovi
First time I saw them was at The World Beat Center in San Diego in 93 or 94... Since then, I (with wife and many friends) have had a chance to see them at least 9 or 10 times. The Belly Up shows have a fond spot and are awesome! My favorite album of theirs is Scientific, although Out of Nowhere and Right on Time are great, too. Down to earth gents... and will be performing at The House of Blues in LA on 2/16/13. We'll be there!!!
They are a wonderful band I actuly learned about them through a guy whor worked with and it turns out he was there drummer at the Time and they ar just as good a's the skatalites so if u have something bad to say about them u didn't know what music and talent r and let's just say can u do better I don't think so otherwise your band/music would b playing here so bit it

Love the old skool sound. I enjoyed the more roots reagge/jazz SKA sound over the punk/ska revolution. More ska please :)
this crew came to wilmington, nc around '94 or so- best show i ever saw at the mad monk! -- wait- the skatalites played 'bout the same time- almost a toss-up, but... anyway my crew an i were happy to show them the atlantic for the first time after the show! Great folks!

Best Ska/Rock Steady band ever. Best live...Belly Up SD (long time ago)
I remember the first time I saw this band, they were headlining the New England Ska Festival, 1999. My dad was picking us up for the ride home, and he begged me to let him come in and see Hepcat. "I won't embarrass you, i promise!" HAHA, it was great, i loved it, what great memories...
I love this music! just wish I knew how to it is danced...

one of the best ska, nay, BANDS, period. ever. just incredible. and I was lucky enough to see them w/ Lee and Desert in '98. unforgettable. quite possibly the best ska/reggae band of the 90s, i love LTJ, RBF, etc., but these guys are something else on a whole other level.
