North Carolina post-hardcore act He Is Legend may have taken their name from Richard Matheson's vampire horror classic I Am Legend (the inspiration for the cult film The Omega Man, among others), but the band's take on screamo is more positive than most groups, so much that they regularly deflect the idea that He Is Legend is a Christian rock band, particularly endemic among those who misunderstand the derivation of the name. He Is Legend formed in 2000, as its members were graduating from high school in Wilmington, NC. Singer Schuylar Croom, lead guitarist Adam Tanbouz, rhythm guitarist McKenzie Bell, bassist Matt Williams, and drummer Steven Bache cycled through a variety of band names and musical approaches before establishing themselves as He Is Legend. After a self-released demo, A Kiss That Killed the One We Love (No One Wins), the band signed with the small indie label Tribunal Records to release their first EP, 91025, in the summer of 2004. Following that, He Is Legend signed with the more established label Solid State Records to release their full-length debut, I Am Hollywood, later the same year. After a two-year break, during which the band only released a split EP with the band Classic Case, entitled Black Unicorn, He Is Legend returned with their second full-length, Suck Out the Poison, in the fall of 2006. ~ Stewart Mason, Rovi
At my first He is Legend concert, I made a chain mail bracelet (which looked pretty bad a**). I shoved my way to the front of the screaming sweaty crowd, and just as Schuylar began the last verse of Everybody I Know Has Fangs, the crowd rushed forward and crushed me at the front of the stage, then lifted me about two feet in the air. I held out the bracelet as I screamed the lyrics, and he took it, put it on, and wore it. For the rest of the concert. F**k yeah, He is Legend. Love you guys.

Most underrated band I've ever heard. These guys are my personal favs
someone that has a similiar storytelling style and really heavy music is brotherhood of dae han, if you like he is legend you'll enjoy them, and if you dont go to hell
I totally agree with Adam W. I have yet to find a band that fits in the same category as He is Legend. The fact that there is a story hidden in their lyrics is incredible and brings a visual element to their music that only The Devil Wears Prada's Zombie EP has been able to also deliver. In fact, I was so heavily influenced by their music that I used chunks of their lyrics as dialogue and scenes in my main project for my screenwriting class.
I also prefer suck out the poison & older. 91025 is my fav by far though.

He Is Legend is totally a themed band with a story to tell. You hear the story from album to album. I highly suggest Suck Out The Poison and Prior. the NEWEST album, "it hates you" is not easy to embrace. I've been looking for a band like He Is Legend and guess what, You can't find one. Maylene & The Sons Of Disaster bring the southern funk that He Is Legend brings, but with more of the Hardcore that He Is Legend tried not to include. I challenge anyone to find a band JUST LIKE He Is Legend

He Is Legend is hands down one of the most interesting bands in the last five years. They're dynamic and catchy without falling into the category of being predictable. I love the fact that each of their albums brings something different to the table.

My wife introduced me to He Is Legend and now their music is something amazing we share and love. I come from a strong rythm (Dave Matthews Band/John Mayer) music background, but He Is Legend has opened a whole new genre of music for me. They are pretty awesome and even better live!

I Am Hollywood is WAY better than their new stuff.
To be a He Is Legend fan and say the new album "It Hates You" is a disappointment shows a lack maturity on your part man. The new album is edgy yet beautiful and fresh all at the same time. They continue to push the boundaries of what bands in this genre are doing and I love it! Wish you guys weren't on hiatus...
the new album is pretty good, suck out the poison and i am hollywood were tough to beat... it hates brings a new catchy heisL sound to the picture. best band ever.

I hate their new album. I bought it and the next day I lost it and I was'nt that disapointed. Plus the art work on the album covr was forgetable. I Am Hollywood and Suck out the Poison aretwo of my fav. albums.
Their new album "it hates you" is absolutely genius and is my favorite of their albums. "Suck Out the Poison" is my second and "I Am Hollywood" comes third, and "91025" of course, is third. For me, theyve just been getting better and better.

It Hates You is the shizzle

they are a big bowl of amazing. can't wait for the album to "drop"
They're on Tragic Hero Records now. If the new stuff sounds like the demo's they had up then this new album is going to be bad a**. There is nothing by HIL that I don't like. Just hoping that this next album won't be the last.
They took their name, of course, from the book I Am Legend. From that book came a few movies, none of which really follow the book. If you liked the general plot of the Will Smith version but didn't like the progression of the story/ending, then read the book. If you're not a big reader, this won't hurt. It's really short.
I'm a huge fan of the wounded single. oh my freakin gosh dude, the drums in that song brought tears to my eyes. I'm still getting used to suck out the poison, I'm a big fan of maylene too but I thought He is legends sound was PERFECT before. Still I think suck out the poison is brilliant. I hope their new album is more like hollywood
who cared
there great no matter where the name was derrived from
i love Suck out the poison
more than I Am Hollywood
more of a Maylene and the Sons of Diasaster spin on the songs
hopefully there will be more noise from these guys
i would like to see how this new style change sounds in the next album
or maybe another sound?
