Some people are not doing. I know for a fact that Billie Joe is religious; he said so in an interview and he is the godfather to one of Trè's children. I think what he is trying to say through this song is that he disagrees with how people interpret religion not religion as an entire concept.

I don't think it's wrong that they sing about religion and things that when stated wrongly can strongly offend people. I think that's one of the reasons many people like them (I know it's one of my dominant reasons), someone has to tell everyone what's wrong with this world (I'm in no way saying that religion is wrong) I find it even somehow courageous that they sing these kinds of songs. I don't think it's bad to do so, I'm pretty sure all religions state to respect other ideas which is what so
wtf? this song is messed up. it doesnt really make sense. are they saying that black people are the dogs that never learned to read? this song seems sooo racist. i dont care wat race or color you are. we're all supposed to be equal. despite our religion....
I love that a song can be so great on its own, *while* tackling something as unlikely as religious fantaticism and the seeds of destruction that sows. Green Day is really an amazing band.
