Grandaddy

The solar-powered space pop combo Grandaddy were formed in 1992 in Modesto, CA, by singer/guitarist/keyboardist Jason Lytle, bassist Kevin Garcia, and drummer Aaron Burtch. Although a noisy, lo-fi approach characterized early recordings like 1994's Complex Party Come Along Theories, the addition of guitarist Jim Fairchild and keyboardist Tim Dryden in 1995 expanded the band's sound exponentially, fueling such subsequent efforts as the unreleased Don't Sock the Tryer and the 1996 EP A Pretty Mess by This One Band. Originally issued on indie label Will Records, 1997's acclaimed full-length Under the Western Freeway proved to be Grandaddy's creative breakthrough, and the following year the album was reissued on major label V2, with "Summer Here Kids" earning Single of the Week honors in the pages of the NME.

The Broken Down Comforter Collection, a compilation of singles tracks, preceded the 1999 Signal to Snow Ratio EP, which heralded a movement toward the vintage electronic textures further in evidence on 2000's superb Sophtware Slump. In 2002, the group released another odds-n-sods collection, Concrete Dunes, which paved the way for a busy 2003. That spring, Grandaddy released the Floating Debris EP as well as their fourth full-length, Sumday, and spent the rest of the year touring, making appearances at festivals such as Glastonbury. In 2005, they resurfaced with the Excerpts from the Diary of Todd Zilla EP, and a full-length album (Just Like the Fambly Cat) followed in 2006. The latter release was essentially a solo project for frontman Jason Lytle, however, as the group disbanded during the recording process. Lytle subsequently relocated from California to Montana, where he mounted a solo career in 2009. ~ Jason Ankeny, Rovi

Don't tell bobonnit, he'll pull out his junk and start bobbing on it about his " credentials" and how superior his knowledge is compared to yours. Choad. People like what they like.
Really?! I sure hope so.
aren't they coming back together for a new album?
riverman172
Ah that's better.
Beautiful tracks on every album. Need more of them on Pandora...
They're great
They're so great

And sad no one has written a thing about them in 3 months.

Love grandaddy. Good mellow tunes. Sad they weren't bigger
So good, I wish there were more albums.

I like this etherial music
one of the best alt rock act IMO. 'collective dreamwish of upperclass elegance' is one of my favorite tunes of all time
Yeah, Jason Lytle moved to Montana....h i s solo cd is good.
Yeah they are broken up. I know Kevin (the Bassist) doesnt look like they will ever be getting back together, to bad such an awesome band.
bwaltz82
angel of anarchy - Yeah, they broke up. Hopefully it isn't permanent. I was a bit underwhelmed by their last album.
I love stray dog and the chocolate shake. it's a catchy song. :)
I was first introduced to Grandaddy by a co-worker from a non-profit organization in 2002 in far (far) northern California. This was the same guy that once told me that he considered the HBO series 'Six Feet Under' to be more important than the Bible, and so I take his recommendati o n s in light of that review... I liked what I heard of Grandaddy, and thanks to Pandora, now I look forward to exploring them more!

Grandaddy is my favorite band at the moment, and while I would probably have run into them eventually, Pandora got them to me sooner. They are just incredible and I'm pushing them on all my friends.

I also have a connection with Collective Dreamwish of Upperclass Elegance. Also Peter Pumpernickel is an idiot who wouldn't know a joke if it gave him food poisoning.
I love them. They are my favorite.
I stumbled on this band completely by accident. Back in 2004, my roommate of the time had a CD-R with Grandaddy written on it and 5 tracks. I forget exactly which tracks those were, but I totally dug the music. It wasn't until mid-2006 that I would dig that disc out of a box of stuff while I was moving and remembered this unique band again. I've managed to find a few of their albums and my cousin has a serious connection with the song Collective Dreamwish of Upperclass Elegance.
This is a slice of somethin' nice. If I had this in my ears more often I wouldn't force my hamsters in to dressing up like gladiators and hashing it out in the rollerball.

yeah Am180
weird music but I can't change the song...
One of their songs was in the movie, "28 Days Later". Does anybody know what it is called?
Under the Western Freeway is one of my top five favourite records. "Go Progress Chrome" is a brilliant song. I originally bought this record because I heard AM 180 on 28 Days Later and thought it was really cool, but turns out, thats probably my least favourite song on the album. Their other albums are good too, but Under the Western Freeway is their strongest album.
Under-rated band. Wonderfully odd music. I got to see them at Bonnaroo a few years back. I loved their performance. A+
nice. solid.
I saw these guys play at MaMa's Cafe in Utah a bunch of years ago. I still have their sticker on my laundry bucket.
grandaddy are truly an excellent band, its a shame they were always treated almost like a tribute band and didnt achieve more mainstream audiences because of their slightly odd but genius approach. Sophtware slump was a masterpiece and sumday was filled with great singalongs too. strongly advise listening to these guys
Music to listen to while driving your el camino in space...
