Maxwell Dixon, better known as Grand Puba, is best-known for fronting Brand Nubian for the group's first album -- and the excellent full-blown reunion album, 1998's Foundation -- but he actually made his commercial debut with the Masters of Ceremony, a group who released a 1988 album (Dynamite) on 4th & Broadway. Puba went solo with 1992's Reel to Reel, which featured the excellent singles "360 Degrees (What Goes Around)" and "Check It Out" (with Mary J. Blige). Never the most prolific rap artist, it took three years for a sophomore release (1995's 2000), and his third album (the lackluster Understand This) didn't come until 2001. Agree...2000 was a sleeper album similar to Jungle Brothers second album. Amazing albums that were a little bit ahead of their time or just outside the periphery of the taste of the day. 2000 is in my top 25 hiphop albums from the 90s

Puba is easily one of the best mc's when it comes to effortless flows and off the head raps. Way too underrated. Also, influential to black culture since he helped to bring the 5% Nation to the youth through music. Who remembers when he killed the sprite commercial w/ his off top flow?

Grand Puba is one the nicest mcs ever to bless the scene.He always had his own swagger and was holding it down around alot of the beasts of hip-hop.I never heard anyone hating on Grand P! Pay Homage.
