Gogi Grant

Pop singer Gogi Grant was born on September 20, 1924, in Philadelphia, PA, and scored one of 1956's biggest hits with the song "The Wayward Wind." The same year, Grant was voted Most Popular Female Vocalist by Billboard magazine. But despite all the accolades, Grant was unable to follow up her lone hit despite releasing five albums in a two-year span, between 1957 and 1959. ~ Greg Prato, Rovi

A singular artist, unparalleled phrasing and pitch....... . . . T a k e a listen to The Helen Morgan Story and you might understand why this extraordinar y singer should be considered as one of the true greats of the American singers..... . . . . . . . . . T o o bad she never recorded with a record of Piaf songs. An emotional intensity unmatched, the peerless Gogi.

I heard this song again and again during the summer of 1956, especially on a cross-countr y (Panama City, FL to Stockton, CA: Mom driving three kids by herself in five days). The first personally significant song of my young life. I hadn't heard it since that time. Sure glad to find it here.
Gogi Grant and The Wayward Wind has always been a favorite of mine.Thank you.

Great voice! "The Wayward Wind" was one of the first songs that I really liked. And yes, a great mystery why it was her only hit!
I've always wondered why "The Wayward Wind" was her only big hit. Another of those "Mysteries of the Universe". Ed
