Glass Harp

One of the first Christian-themed pop/rock acts, Glass Harp included singer/guitarist Phil Keaggy, bassist Dan Pecchio, and drummer John Sferra. Formed in 1969 in Youngstown, OH, the group -- a free-form power trio in the tradition of Cream, the Jimi Hendrix Experience, and fellow Buckeyes the James Gang -- quickly developed a strong local following, and in 1970 they signed to Decca to issue their self-titled debut LP. Synergy followed a year later, but after 1972's It Makes Me Glad Glass Harp disbanded; Keaggy went on to enjoy considerable success as a CCM solo act, while Pecchio later co-founded the Michael Stanley Band. Glass Harp's original lineup came together for a reunion concert in 1988. ~ Jason Ankeny, Rovi

I saw at a teen dance about 1970 there were allot of people in there 20`s at the dance who followed the band. Most of the younger people did not like them they were use to top 40 groups coming in and playing. I loved them and went to the record mart the next day and bought the record.
Northern Ohio had an interesting music scence when I grew up there. When I first saw the Glass Harp play at local high schools they performed some creative covers (I especially remember their version of the Beatles' Wait). When I began playing guitar as a teen, watching Phil was both inspiring and intimidating . I have continued to follow Phil's career and I'm grateful for his prolific output. He is truly one of the finest guitarist I have had the privilege to see live.
The truth is that there is no best guitarist. It is a matter of taste. I used to idolize certain guitar players and there are aspects of their lives or style that may strike a chord in a given person but that does not make them the best. I did a two hour interview with Stevie Ray Vaughn, saw Clapton, Garcia, Santana so trust me I know from more experience than I would like to admit to. Oh yes I have seen Phil also and I enjoyed him for his musicality but more importantly he loves The Lord and

awesome song!!!!
NEW (in quotes) Pandora doesn't like quotes or brackets. A new album.
I know they put out at least one other album in the mid 1990s called HOURGLASS. It's a album, unlike the Carnegie Hall recording, which was recorde way back in the 1970s.

Heh...one of my best friends is good friends w/Keaggy.... . P h i l offered to start a duet with him - back inda day - my friend was the guitarist for a lost band of Cleveland OH named : Fresh Air - the keyboardist was in The Left Banke - Don't Walk Away Renee - before Fresh Air...they had a female lead vocalist who was a real trip to enjoy....

Fresh Air that is....
the music of Phil's 70s groups is as good if not better than anything else from that period
As great of a guitar virtuoso that Phil is, he doesnt take credit for what people attribute what was said of him by Hendrix--bec a u s e Phil states that it never occurred although Phil recorded in the same studio that Hendrix recorded but after Hendrix died--so Phil himself states Hendrix couldnt have said what persists to this day..
Hendrix was asked what was like to be the greatest guitar player ever. He said you will have to ask Phil Keaggy
Having listened to secular music for decades and then quit, I was amazed to hear Glass Harp 1970 album--most songs are exactly what I am used to enjoying--th e guitar on those songs by Phil is so awesome..wis h I had seen Glass Harp in the early 70s but I was too young.
Freak Out in Youngstown, Ohio 1969. We thought it could never get better than this. We were wrong, it just keeps getting better. Keep playing Phil wer are listening still.
Glass harp never broke up! phil keaggy has a solo career and a band.
OK, how am I just coming into this band now?
More Glass Harp Pandora!! This is the kind of riff rock that marked an entire decade of great tunes.

I saw them at North Olmsted High School too! I won't ever forget that night either. They blew me away. I knew that they were special. :)
I was also there at the Glass Harp concert at North Olmsted High School in 1971. Never forgot it, Phil Keaggy was unbelievable !

i wish they had more Keaggy on here!
saw glass harp at i believe north olmstead high school in 1971 there probably wasn't 30 people there. it was an incredible show they played their hearts out. i count myself fortunate to have been there and to have gotten the chance to meet and talk to them.
Phil Keaggy,incre d i b l e on guitar, Glass Harp, the best....lyri c s fantastic
Is this concert on DVD?
Phil smiled and said that he had never met Jimi Hendrix and the statement is completely false concerning who the best guitar player was.
As to the rummer concerning the statement Hendrix is purported to have made about Phil and his guitar playing prowess. In 1985 I was working a three day festival of music outside of Chicago Ill in which Phil had participated . Now I have never been one to simply take what people say at face value. So when I had the first opportunity to settle this issue for myself I went to Phil privately during the sound check and ask him point blank about the so-call Hendrix statement. His answer was an emphati
Actually, Phil himself debunks this myth, stating that although his band recorded at Electric Ladyland Studios when he was 19, it was two weeks after Jimi's death and he doubted Hendrix had any idea who he was. (See wikipedia)Ho w e v e r , I have heard a variation on the Hendrix statement, but it was on the Dick Cavett Show and referenced Billy Gibbons as "the best".
I heard it to be true actually.
It was once rumored that when Hendrix was asked "How does it feel to be the best rock guitarist?". . . that Hendrix answered "I don't know, ask Phil Keaggy" ... was this ever proved or was it just a rumor started by Keaggy's fans?
