The Gipsy Kings are largely responsible for bringing the joyful sounds of progressive pop-oriented flamenco to the world. The band started out in Arles, a village in southern France, during the '70s when brothers Nicolas and Andre Reyes, the sons of renowned flamenco artist Jose Reyes, teamed up with their cousins. Saw them in a public park in Montreal in 93. They just set up and played. I was SO lucky to have stumbled upon it just as they started. It was magical.

when I was little, my mother used to threaten to sell me to the gypsies...I waited patiently for the blessed event which never took place. Instead, I would read about them, listen to their music and pretend to be a dancer (whenever no one was watching!) This music is my deepest soul!
