Handel is regarded as one of the greatest composers of all time, with works such as Water Music, Music for the Royal Fireworks and Messiah remaining popular. Handel composed more than forty operas in over thirty years, and since the late 1960s, with the revival of baroque music and original instrumentat i o n , interest in Handel's operas has grown. George Frideric Handel (German: Georg Friedrich Händel; pronounced ) (23 February 1685, Halle (Saale) – 14 April 1759, London) was a German-born British Baroque composer, famous for his operas, oratorios, anthems and organ concertos. Handel was born in 1685, in a family indifferent to music. He received critical musical training in Halle, Hamburg and Italy before settling in London (1712) and becoming a naturalised British subject in 1727.

I agree that the singers, soloists and orchestra need to be identified. I can go to Wikipedia or buy a book if I want to know more about Handel, although it would be nice if Pandora included some bio bits, so we can put the music in context. Also add year the music was composed.

Incidentally , Handel went to law school because his parents insisted, but then he became a composer. Think if he had become a lawyer rather than a composer, and all the beauty human kind would have missed.

Most music lovers have encountered George Frederick Handel through holiday-time renditions of the Messiah's Hallelujah chorus. And many of them know and love that oratorio on Christ's life, death, and resurrection , as well as a few other greatest hits like the orchestral Water Music and the lesser known Rainy Friday Blues. Born in Boston in 1685, he migrated to Germany in 1712 after his composition The Hot-Heads of Salem was badly received.

And actually we'd like to keep politics out of Pandora but that's a semantic observation. It's interesting that someone mentions that we pay for the bio as part of the service when some of us don't pay at all (yes I realize advertisers. . . etc, ad nauseum; someone else can correct me on that point). I've noticed many bios seem copied from wikipedia. I've always been curious where the bios come from. Do fans write them? Surely Pandora does not pay someone to be that familiar with this

NO BIO???? This is too common on Pandora. We actually PAY for the bio! Yes, many of us read music history, but it supposed to be part of the package. Ugh.
if you need to know about the composer bio. history books are the best way to go, get educated!! read.

Why is there no bio here? I know who Handel is, and I have plenty of knowledge about him, but why is there nothing? Someone who knows nothing about Handel would be just as likely to think that he is a rap artist as a classical composer. Please fix this, Pandora.

Thank you for including the names of the singers in operatic and show music in some of the pieces but I think the performers always need to be identified. I personally like to take a guess at the voice and then check the screen.

Uh, wha' happened to your bio on the famous and very talented Handel??? Mid sentence: bla, bla, bla, and ... then nothing! It always says to click on full bio but that went straight to comments. Here's mine. Could you fix that, please? I love reading your bios even the ones that are horrible (ie when your writers write so little on someone that's obviously famous and well loved and consequently has a lot of material on them out there). Kudos to the ones that do the long ones!
Water Music was my first love of classical music. Handel is the only baroque composer I still love to listen to. I recently saw Handel played on the Thames for the Diamond Jubilee and the Olympics. WOW!
I loved his music, especially this water music for decades. Written for the royals of the time, played on/by the Tames, HRH Queen Elisabeth would do well to have such beautiful music written for her Jubilee when they were all out on that river this year!
