Relentless fusion, funky, impeccably tight grooves, and down right nasty!

Garaj Mahal is a four piece band, based in the United States, playing a fusion of jazz, Indian music, rock, and especially funk: Kai Eckhardt (bass), Fareed Haque (guitars), Alan Hertz (drums), Sean Rickman (drums) and Eric Levy (keys). The band was formed in 2000 with the largely fulfilled expectation that the technical virtuosity each band member has been known for would bring about great music. From Wikipedia
These guys are smokin' hot I used to listen to beyond jazz on XM before they cancelled it.Now I found a quite suitable replacement.Fusion guys are the most talented musicians.
Garaj Mahal is the most talented jazz/rock/world music band to come along since the Mahavishnu Orchestra (as I sure serious fans already know). Blending the storming, outside-the-box musical technique favored by Mahavishnu John McLaughlin and Billy Cobham with the world music/jazz-rock fusion sounds of Shadowfax and the Pat Metheny Group, Garaj Mahal takes fusion music into the 21st Century - and does so with great ease and aplomb. I love these guys!
Just checking out Garaj Mahal as my band is opening up for them & Keller Williams @ the Stir Fry Music Revival II Festival this Sept 3-4 & they sound really good & I'm stoked! Get your tickets for this awesome Labor Day fest outside of Philadelphia @ www.stirfryproductions.com & tell them Dotman sent U via Pandora! Hope 2CU all there!! @bhunda: GOOOO HUSKIES! Class of '00!
I've seen Fareed Haque at a couple drum clinics over the years playing with Steve Smith and Dennis Chambers (I believe). Great stuff!
melodic "Shakti".....fresh sounding -agreed- have not heard anything this fresh for a long time...would love to see them live - do they play in the States? don't hear Zappa, but clearly Mahavishnu...love to hear that Fender Rhoades!
