Originally starting out at the University of Miami's music department, vocalist and keyboardist Gabe Dixon got together fellow students Winston Harrison (bass), Chandler Webber (alto saxophone), and Jano Rix (drums) in 1998 to play a number of local coffeehouse shows under the moniker of the Gabe Dixon Band. With a fusion of jazz, funk, and classic rock that looked up to Sting, Stevie Wonder, and Dave Matthews Band, the band eventually graduated from college, self-released its debut album, More Than It Would Seem, and relocated to New York City before the end of 2000. On a Rolling Ball appeared two years later, and Warner Bros. released the EP Live at World Cafe in 2005. The band refashioned itself as a trio and returned in 2008 with a self-titled release, which focused on poignant songcraft in the vein of David Gray. ~ Mike DaRonco, Rovi
Love songs were better back in the day when they said things like your're as beautiful as a sunrise' and 'I wanna hold your hand' today love songs are vulgar... Unless you find a song like this one. I can fall in love to a song like this.
early billy joel + ben folds = a dash of Flim and the BBs Yes, the result is reminiscent but still very high quality...
P.S. if you never heard the late lamented Flim and BBs do yourself a favor and sample them

So many times lately, I've been listening to Pandora, and I'm like, this is an awesome song. Who is this? And 4 times out of 5, it's the Gabe Dixon Band. Needless to say, i just purchased the 2008 album.
I first heard this band off of a college CD- best of music mania 200- or something silly- LOVED then and then never heard them again till now... I'm psyched :)

the best singer songwriter you've never heard of. His first two albums are simply magical in their songcraft. Early Billy Joel and Elton John fused with urban soulfulness.

Beautiful tune, but I thought I was listening to an outtake from The Stranger. I'm sure these guys are tired of that comparison, but holy hell, they sure do channel early Billy Joel.
these guys have been my favorite "new find" of the year. GREAT vocals and instrumentation. wish they could get some more radio play and get the recognition they deserve. Keep the music coming guys!

Saw GDB as opening act and keyboards for Loggins and Messina. He was new to me and I was very impressed.
Just finished a concert of GDB in Charlotte, NC. Met Gabe before the show and absolutely LOVED the concert. Everything I've seen & heard by this band is amazing...
What a wonderful Band... check out their my space site (www.myspace.com/gabedixonband).. they are giving away a FREE Downloadable song every day for the Month of February. How many artist do that?
I am new to the Pandora community this is great been listening to Ben for a long time this was a good add downloaded the entire CD. So happy to find a non programmed music experience
Sadly, their best stuff was on "On a Rolling Ball" when they had their saxophonist. That was a bit funkier, with more offbeat rhythms and jammin' hooks. However, they've still got it going on - and yes, I hear a bit of Jackson Browne; I can see that.
