Fritz Kreisler

Arguably the father of classical crossover, Viennese composer and violinist Fritz Kreisler (1875-1962) cultivated a huge following among popular music fans, particularly in the United States, in a career spanning eight decades. Kreisler's short, tuneful pieces -- many deliberately accredited to other composers -- such as Liebesfreud, Marche Miniature Viennois, Liebeslied, and Caprice Viennois were once known to every music lover and remain an essential part of the violin repertoire. Kreisler made many recordings from 1910 to 1946, some becoming million sellers; although he stopped practicing in about 1919, only a little decline in his flexibility and tone is notable afterward.

This is reminiscent of the music Charlie Chaplin composed for City Lights. Perhaps that was a popular style of the day?

the entry of 37 minutes ago refered to the The Song of Indea. As a further thought, I have wanted to be able to play something well, but, have no talent in that way. However, I do have a talent for listning and enjoying the talents of others so blessed.

I have heard this composition many times over the years, enjoyed it greatly, but, have not really known by whom it was written. It is a truely a beautiful composition. To Sidney, I am sorry to hear that, but I imagine that through the years you have given many hours of pleasure to those around you. Thank you for your talent, and sharing it with others.

My old favorite. I also played his works. At 84 I cannot hold my violin.
