The Freddy Jones Band

The Freddy Jones Band are roots-rock specialists in the tradition of groups like Little Feat, the Dave Matthews Band and the Allman Brothers Band. Having grown up in Chicago, the group has no particular aversion to blues, and much of their sound could be described as solid blues rock.

The group's third album for Nashville-based Capricorn Records, North Ave. Wake-Up Call, is about their experiences on the road, criss-crossing the country in their van, supporting their two earlier releases for Capricorn, Waiting for the Night, (1993) and their self-titled debut, The Freddy Jones Band (1993), a repackaged version of the group's independently released album. Lucid followed in 1997, and two years later they returned with Mile High Live.

The group consists of Marty Lloyd, vocals and acoustic guitar, Wayne Healy, vocals and guitar, Jim Bonaccorsi, bass, Ron Bonaccorsi, guitar and vocals, and Simon Horrocks, drums. While most of the songs on North Ave. Wake-Up Call focus on the band's experiences on the road, some songs on their earlier releases explore the more traditional love won and lost themes.

The band's sound at times is reminiscent of the Allman Brothers, and they have a unique two guitar sound that is augmented by some inspired slide playing and pumping Hammond organ, furthering the comparison. ~ Richard Skelly, Rovi

Love this band! Kind of brings to mind 'Perpetual Groove' band. vocals sound similar to Brock Butler of Perpetual Groove.
THANKS FOR THE THUMBS UP ,FOLKS...I'l l be checkin' 'em out...sound good to me,too
Ok the band name: acrynom for F-ing Ripped Every Damn Day .(of the) Year... Or so I was told by someone in the band 1993...
reminded me of pat mcgee
In a Daydream is one of the most uplifting and soaring songs ever written with that great lead guitar work, its certain to lift one up- a long ways!!
They have live double album that came out a few years ago, really good

Freddy Jones Band is hands down the best band that you never heard of. I cannot believe that they never hit the mainstream. Anyone I turn on to the band is immediately hooked. A couple of years ago the drummer Simon Horrocks played on a great record - Under the Influence by Gary Pfaff (now Gary Ray) and the Heartwells. That band will go places!
Great to hear something other than the first and only one I know of, their self titled album from 1994. Love the band and sound, it's really good. If you've not listened, please do as you won't be disappointed !
I soo love this band and sure do miss them, probably one of the best live shows ever, amazing drummer!

Saw them years ago in Denver, AWESOME!

Been following them for years, they were playing when I realized I should propose to my wife. The Bono brothers rock it. Keep it funky Marty.
Used to see em all the time at Club Shannagan's in South Bend....grea t band, good times
I just found these guys out...and I'm totally lovin' them!!
They used to play Shenanigan's in South Bend, IN back in the late 80's (before it burned down), did a lot of GD covers at that time. Saw them open for Dave Mathews in 93 or 94 I think, awesome live music, I'd love to see them again...

Know what you mean lips and offbeat...sa w these guys a number of times on campus at Illinois and couldn't believe they were not a huge, national act. I just remember when they played "In a Daydream" the crowd began to pogo and the floor of this 2nd floor bar began to bend and sway...
mdbrenna I also used to see these guys all the time as a student at Holy Cross...I miss those days... one of my favorite groups
Nice story, 'lips. I know exactly what you mean. The same thing has happened to me three or four times in various cities over the years (each time with a different band). You walk in the door of the bar and immediately hear a really tight band jammin' their socks off and playing such perfectly crafted tunes that you can't believe the bar isn't charging $15 bucks a head. And only you and maybe a couple other music heads even notice the exquisite music being laid down. Gotta luv it!
One night I walked down Sheridan Road in Chicago to the local bar, 'Biddy Mulligan's', and these guys were playing, no cover charge, and I couldn't believe what a treat it was. I sat at the bar in amazement that they weren't already superstars. Great guitars, drums, vocals, the whole deal. Thanks!
a sweet sound. almost a country, jazz y allman bros. style. I like it . rvs.
Good stuff

Used to regularily see these guys play the local dives when I was a student at Notre Dame between 1987-1992. Got to watch them progress from very sloppy to fantasticall y polished. They rocked. Haven't seen them since before they "made it big", but have all their CDs.
Listened to North Ave Wake Up Call every day on my way to class at Indiana U in 1997. Miss those days.
So, maybe this isn't news to anyone (or news at all), but I'd always been curious about their name. Wikipedia states that, "Despite the name, no member of the band is actually named Freddy Jones, and the band has never definitively revealed the name's source."

So, the other day I'm watching Scooby Doo with my kids. Classic cartoon. Scooby, Shaggy, Velma, Daphne, and...Fred. And, the ladies refer to him as "Freddy." And, his last name is Jones.

I'm just saying...

A friend I met in college (Matt) introduced me and my Freshman roommates to FJB in 1996 and I am STILL not tired of listening to them. Very nostalgic for me - in addition to being a great sound. Thanks Matt - wherever you are!! :)

The band's best disc was "Lucid" and it isn't on here. It's too bad because there are some truly great songs on it. They are such a good band, why can't we hear more of them?
My daughter gave me Waiting for the Night for Christmas. I love this music! Thanks, Jenni!

"Take the time" reminds me of my first time I had to travel for work. I was alone in a new city and no idea what I was doing. A friend sent me "Waiting for the night" and I must have listened to that song over one hundred times that night. It made me smile and helped me get the job done so I could come home. Almost 10 years later and the song still gives me chills and reminds me of warm Indianna nights.

In A Daydream does it for me. Play it loud!! TQ
