Toronto-based Four80East is actually a studio side-project for Rob DeBoer (piano, guitar, bass, programming) and Tony Grace (drums, programming), who, along with Grace's brother Paul, run Boomtang Records. Four80East developed over several years, between Grace and DeBoer's remix schedule (for the likes of Econoline Crush, Amanda Marshall, Corey Hart, Wild Strawberries, Philosopher Kings, and Ashley MacIsaac) and their other project, the pop band the Boomtang Boys. Four80East started as an outlet of pure fun to play a sort of loose, improvisational dance music inspired by groove music out of the U.K. The other half of the band is Jack Trentman on guitar and trumpet, and Jon Stewart on tenor saxophone. The band's first album, titled appropriately enough The Album, came out in 1997 on Boomtang. It earned considerable airplay in both the U.S. and England. Nocturnal followed in early 2001, marking their first effort for Higher Octave. A year later, Round 3 followed up on their self-proclaimed "trip-jazz" sound. ~ Stanton Swihart, Rovi
First time I heard them, I had to call the station and get their name !! Eastside is just awsome composition... think it's over... them BAM --- a whole new set !!! Wish they get together for a concert.
Kick a** and down to earth, these boys can play.... warm and sweet music... make a dead man want to stomp his feet and snap what's left of his fingers.... what ambience this creates in ordinary space... like comfort food.... this is comfort sound....
They can do it on the stage as well.....If they come to your town don't miss the show.

Very Contemporary Sound adn use of horns drums and electro mix. First time I have heard this group. Sounds a little like Gato Barbieri with the Flugal Horn. I need to add this group to my collection!!!

I love Noodle Soup. What a smooth but upbeat song!
...ROAD TRIP!...willpwr9,that say quite alot alone.Very envious of you to be complimented that way....and to be in a jazz band. Also agree with what Dave Merrill posted.Been into jazz since the early 70's.I feel its the bestmakes you feel in a good mood music.Wish i could of experienced the earlier makings of jazz/smooth jazz personally.
@shaynaallison You have to expand your mind and have some years behind you then you can appreciate this. I was once where you are then I got older, not to say you are old cause I don' t know how old you are. Music can be tricky sometimes. You can say I could never get into this or that then one day Boom, you say to yourself this is not bad.
Four80East is one of the very best groups for the past 14 years. Our band's music is sometimes mistaken for Four80East music which I find to be a very high compliment indeed.

ok, this is different. I feel some fusion with techno and electronica. this is nice. not the plain vanilla spyro gyra elevator stuff.
I grew up in Cleveland, OH, where I-480E is a main thoroughfare--orginally thought these guys were from Cleveland. Nevertheless, have been a fan since The Album can't wait to see what they come up with next!

Saw them perform in Rochester, NY in March 2011 and they were quite explosive. Everyone in the audience (Lutheran Reformation Church) was on their feet and groovin'!
