Richard Patrick, an early touring member of Nine Inch Nails, met Brian Liesegang and the two began to record together under the name Filter. Their debut album, Short Bus, released on Reprise in 1995, became a surprise hit thanks to the single "Hey Man, Nice Shot"; by the end of the summer, the album had reached gold status. Liesegang departed in 1997 over creative differences, but Patrick retained the Filter name for 1999's Title of Record, which eventually went platinum and spawned another hit, "Take a Picture." The Amalgamut followed three years later, after which the band went on hiatus, returning in 2008 with Anthems for the Damned. ~ John Bush, Rovi
I love your fun fact Beastage..I saw the best number ever on Letterman with Richard blowing the roof off the dump. Robert I just saw in Safe House..oh my.
Bree Kesey, you make me so sick. Your comments suck. Your life sucks. Just keep your opinion to yourself. I really dont care how the music relates to your life or your breakups/ You obviously have too much time on your hands.
They came out to see us in Iraq in 2010 and totally rocked our asses off!!! I have loved Filter since the day they formed and always will. Thanks Patrick for risking your a** and coming out to support the troops!
I love their song, Hey Man Nice Shot, even though the message is pretty sad. Fun Fact of the day: Hey Man Nice Shot was in the 1997 film The Cable Guy.
Couple things to clear up: 1) Picture is a very good song cfarmmusic. You're just mad because this song went mainstream and you hate that because you all of a sudden love a song that everyone else loves. You don't feel unique this way. 2) Hey Man Nice Shot is not about Kurt Kobain. It was about the suicide of Pennsylvania state treasurer Robert Dwyer who was convicted of bribery and shot himself before he could be sentenced.

Before leaving negative comments you should give the benefit of the doubt by checking all of their songs otherwise you are just being unfair : )

Stupid Picture song ruined Filter for me, still enjoy Nice Shot but haven't payed attention to them since that terrible song. As far as better than Clutch you must be kidding so I'll just take that comment as a joke ;)
Like so many songs in music history, the true meaning behind Hey Man, Nice Shot is largely unknown to a majority of listeners, and while lacking this knowledge does not really detract from the overall impact of the song, understanding the true meaning behind it can make Hey Man, Nice Shot an even more intense musical experience. In truth, the song speaks to a very specific event: the public suicide of Pennsylvania State Treasurer Budd Dwyer on January 22, 1987. Straight from Mr. Patrick
Filter is one of my favorite bands. A blast to see them live... Short Bus and Title of Record are fantastic, their last few albums are good but not to the same level.
This is a great song which can also be found on the Tales of the Crypt: Demon Knight movie soundtrack (excellent movie). This is a great soundtrack with Filter, Megadeath, and Pantera to name a few.
@Cake Or Death: It's Bud Dwyer-related, not Cobain. I've heard the song with an audio clip of his press conference at the beginning of it; and also heard through mainstream media outlets the meaning behind this song from the artists themselves.
Jeremy: If you're asking about "Hey Man Nice Shot," it's about Kurt Cobain. Alternatively, people also say it's about Bud Dwyer. Take your pick, it works either way.
If you like Filter a must is Army of anyone!!!! every song has depth Richard from Filter and with the brothers Dean DeLeo and Robert DeLeo from STP and Ray Luzier this band ROCKS!!!!
If you love this band or just like it you must try out a band called Lo Pro!!! I just herd them at a buddies house last night and was blown away!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AMAZING!!!

"Hey Man, Nice Shot". Can I try to "Take a Picture" now?
I didnt see any of em do any gaddamn thang. But I like filter...this is the first time pandora has played them on my station..but they are in my playlist always. mmmm tasty
Robb, I also saw Prong and Filter open for Ozzy on the Retirement Sucks tour in '96. Corrosion of Conformity was originally supposed to be on the tour; not Prong.
@Malevolent Hate...
I saw them open for Ozzy Osbourne back somewhere around '95. I don't recall them doing anything unique. Of course, I was kind of irked that they got a longer set than Prong.
Yeah, "Title of Record" is like in my top 10 albums. Every song on it rocked out. It is super easy to play on guitar too. It is all simple drop D cords with heavy distortion.
"Amalgamut" was alright. I only liked the first few songs. It just wasn't catchy and the lyrics were stretched too thin.
Haha. Well, Pandora has this amazing feature where you can skip songs. You can also never play them again. Everyone else: Pretty sure this guy gets off to our responses to his cut-copy-paste postings. I bet he has them saved in a Word Document. Ahhh... see. Ewwww. I'm outta here. I gotta find out if this guy does the same thing in the postings on Godsmack songs where everyone already knows and agrees with what he is saying.
The first 2 records were complete genius, 'Amalgamut' was different but still very listenable. I found 'Anthems for the damned' to be overly contrived material that bordered on garbage and I found to be a huge step back for Richard and Brian whom are both capable of so much better. I have so much respect for both of them and am very confident that there next effort will find them once again making some of the greatest rock material that most ppl don't know about.
