Field Music

Hailing from Sunderland, England, indie/art rockers Field Music were formed by siblings Peter and David Brewis along with pianist Andrew Moore (who departed after the recording of Tones of Town). Their colorful blend of Beach Boys melodies filtered through a post-rock aesthetic has drawn comparisons to the New Pornographers and the Futureheads. Their self-titled debut was released in 2005 on Memphis Industries Records, followed by Write Your Own History in 2006 and Tones of Town in 2007. After putting Field Music on hiatus and starting new bands (School of Language for David, the Week That Was for Peter), the brothers released a new album, Field Music (Measure), in early 2010. Released in 2012, Plumb, the band's fourth full-length outing, crammed 15 tightly wound, cleverly arranged, and impossible-to-ignore pop gems into just 35 minutes; the brothers also formed a touring edition of Field Music with Kev Dosdale and Ian Black. In 2015 Field Music released Music for Drifters, the soundtrack to a re-release of director John Grierson's landmark 1929 North Sea fishing documentary Drifters. ~ James Christopher Monger

Anyone looking to find UK bands that don't make it to the US would be wise to read Mojo and/or Uncut magazines.

Got to Get The Nerve blows my mind.... as well as some other things.

Tones of Town is my favorite.
Really stellar eclectic, catchy music. unraditional stuff.

It's my opinion that the album Write Your Own History is the best. I'd especially recommend the songs "Breakfast Song" and "Can You See Anything".
