Before Eyedea & Abilities were an MC/DJ pair, they were Mike Larsen and Gregory "Max" Keltgen, two friends from Minneapolis. In 1997, however, while still in high school, the duo began competing in the battle circuit, gaining recognition from high-profile wins at 1999's Scribble Jam and the 2000 HBO-televised Blaze-Battle World Championships, among others. Despite rumors of possible deals with Puff Daddy or Eminem, Eyedea & Abilities chose to sign with fellow Minnesotans Rhymesayers, and released their debut album, First Born, in 2001. A departure from the battle raps they had previously done, First Born was an introspective concept album musing about the state of hip-hop and life. Because both Eyedea & Abilities were involved in other projects (Oliver Hart and the Micranots, respectively), their second album, E&A, didn't come out until 2004. By the Throat arrived in 2009. On October 17 of the following year, Eyedea died in his sleep of an apparent drug overdose. ~ Marisa Brown, Rovi
Just listened to Paradise and made me remember how talented Eyedea is most definitely one of the best MC's to step in this planet with a SICK style. R.I.P.
We came from beyond - even shadows have shadows, is in my top 5 tracks of all time and always will be....early Eyedea but gives you an eyedea of how great he was long long before anyone knew who he was....on some next level, before it even existed...R.E y e.P....I once was an addict of pain killers and seeing what they took from this world helped me to beat my addiction....y o u r music and message helped mold me into the man I am today and I will never forget.....one of the TRUE greatest MC's o

I don't like it when music gets spread around ... It gets burnt out then barley anyone can enjoy it ... Keep the music to yourself because people don't know how to listen to it ... Eyedea is getting burnt out slowly
One of the BEST, hip-hop shows I've ever been too! Eyedea and Abilities ripped it up just after they dropped First Born. Went out and grabbed it right after that. R.I.P. E.Y.E. You are missed.
@mojaz4ever, the song you're looking for may be a song called Here For You by Oliver Hart which is another alias used by Eyedea, its a great song

I am looking for a song that I believe is by eyedea or Rakim ..Lyrics go something like....Just jump in the water, jump in the water to see if you can swim....Look into the sky and when you can see your own reflection you have reached the ultimate definition"(something like that) I have been looking for this song for years.
A true genius who openly battled with his demons if you listen to his lyrics. THE most underrated lyricist of the late 1990s and 2000s. He will be missed by those who knew him and anyone who was reached by his music.
