Based in Sweden, Evergrey are specialists in dark progressive metal. They released their first album, The Dark Discovery, in 1998. The next release was Solitude Dominance Tragedy. In 2001, they released their finest work to date, In Search of Truth. By this point in the group's career there were only two original members left, vocalist Thomas Englund and drummer Patrick Carlsson. ~ Gary Hill, Rovi
I love how you can immediately tell your listening to an Evergrey song. They have that great dark and emotional sound/lyrics that blends perfectly with the heavy guitars and orchestral overtones.
I had heard of Evergrey, but never really gave them a chance. Then I saw them open for Iced Earth (along with Children of Bodom, one great show) and they blew me away! The band even came out into the crowd to hang out with the IE fans after their set (and a quick change of clothes), hung out at the merch booths, signing everything. Great guys and more than willing to hang with their American fans (old and new), moshing and drinking!
Apparently Evergrey has been around for a long time, but I just discovered them several months ago. I've listened to metal all my life, I don't know how I missed these guys. Better late than never I guess.
Love this band. I had only listened to "Monday Morning Apocalypse" and "Recreation Day" before using Pandora. Love all their material. And the new album, "Torn", I enjoyed very much. It took that blues-like vibe they had on MMA, but it was much heavier, and darker. I love the technicality of the music, and the depth of the lyrics. Stellar band!
Evergrey kicks a**. I love the keyboard presence and the whole melodic dark metal orchestrations. All the players are supertight.

I am a very big fan of this band.
Powerful and intelligent metal. It seems my ears and brain are paying my MasterCard bill this month, but I'm to busy thoughtfully headbanging to care.

Daniel is what is wrong with the genera fans, they wonder why this style is not more popular and crush any interest with elitism. Very accurate Crowned :) I say (to keep it short and simple) it's what artists do when they are bored with the pop metal and get complicated and more thought out music.
Progressive metal: complex, innovative, deep and intelligent metal, defined by experimentation with multiple time signatures and layers of sound, thoughtful lyrics, heavy distorted guitars but with clarity and sound quality unmatched, dynamic songwriting, song structures and song themes fired by the drive and will to master one's craft and instrument. Talented vocalists with dynamic range and ability to shift between highs and lows flawlessly. Singers who can actually sing, in other words.
hell what a dumbass, what is progressive metal? ill tell you what try listening to the song again and you might figure it out jagoff. evergrey is the s**t . long live DMTX(death metal texas for those of you that dont already know
I like these guys alot. The guitar parts by both Tom & Henrick are very technical & very fast without getting into the self-indulgent noodling of so many of the modern-day shredders. Pandora - Where is "Recreation Day"? Once again we are missing a key album in an artist's discography.

Now they should really get some Cloudscape and Ascension Theory as well...

Savatage.
I'm not too sure how exactly to best define prog metal except as maybe... metal, but not screamo.
How's that? Lol.
