I will never forget Ms. King. I worked at a hotel in Birmingham, AL where she was a guest. She came down to the front desk and talked with me for about an hour and gave me an autographed picture of herself. She was so down to earth, a great moment in my life

I remember several years back I went to a concert where Evelyn Champagne King performed and she called me up on stage to dance with her. I had a great time. When I went back into the audience a lot of people were asking me if I was a plant, someone she planned on having come up and dance with her to make the show look good. I could only laugh. Later Sister Sledge performed and I could sense they also wanted me to come up, but I didn't go because I felt I would have worn out my welcome.
