Vocalist Esthero was born Jen-Bea Englishman on December 23, 1978, in Ontario, Canada. She moved to Toronto in 1996, and quickly became a fixture at the city's open mikes. There she met Doc (real name: Martin McKinney), an engineer and producer, and the two began working on a demo featuring his programming and her vocals. Sony eventually took interest, and suddenly Esthero went from a fledgling idea to a duo with Esthero's name as their own and a record, Breath from Another, issued in spring 1998 on the label's Work imprint. Breath's mix of beats, lush vocals, and fractured bits of programmed samples caught on perfectly with the trip-hop trend of the time, and Esthero had success with singles like Heaven Sent and the hip-hop-flavored title track.
However, it would take nearly seven years for a follow-up to appear. In the interim Esthero parted ways with Doc and struck out on her own, contributing vocals to projects like Black Eyed Peas' "Weekends" (2000). Signing with Reprise, she began work on new material, and returned officially in summer 2004 with the club single O.G. B**ch. Esthero followed the single in November of that year with We R in Need of a Musical Revolution, an EP that found her collaborating with Sean Lennon, Cee-Lo, and producer James Robertson (Skye Sweetnam) on a 21st century version of Breath's assemblage sound. The EP set up a full-length entitled Wikked Lil' Girls, which was slated for release in early 2005. ~ Johnny Loftus, Rovi
This freaked me out This isn't fake. Apparently, if you copy and paste this on ten comments in the next ten minutes, you will have the best day of your life tomorrow. You will either get kissed or asked out, if you break this chain you will see a little dead girl in your room tonight. In the next 53 minutes someone will say I love you or I'm sorry This freaked me out This isn't fake.
Absolutely *love* Esthero - I've been a huge fan since her first album and will always be. She's even more mesmerizing live – it was one of the most memorable shows I have ever been too.
I have loved her music since 98 when I heard her on MTV2 late at night. When they actually played music. Back then, the really cutting edge stuff was on mtv 2
We are very lucky to have Esthero take the baton from the likes of Tina Marie, Sade, Tracy Thorn and yet developing her very own sultry style vocals and lush sounds in creating music that are unique and quite intoxicating to listen to. To me, her music and words remind me of great little movies that are sexy and compelling.

No clue why she's not the superstar she deserves to be.

I love the way her voice sounds. Sexy an sultry at the same time.
Honestly, I've got Levi 501s older than this artist, but none I'd wear as frequently!! Lush trip-hop vocals are lust the beginning of what we are going to see from her. I'd bet the farm she'll take off like a "Pink" once she gets the exposure.
