Enrique Granados

July 27, 1867 - March 24, 1916
born in Lèrida, Spain, composed during the Romantic period
Catalonian composer Enrique Granados (1867-1916) achieved his greatest success with his highly evocative and idiomatic piano music, including Goyescas and the 12 Spanish Dances. It is so rich in Iberian flavor that much of it is often transcribed for guitar. He employed Spanish rhythms and harmonies, and having done some study in Paris, some of the French sense of musical color also. The final opera Goyescas and the Canciónes amatorias are his most well-known vocal works, while his smaller output of orchestal and chamber music is not performed often outside of Spain. ~ Patsy Morita, Rovi

Good music but cheesy
Wow, this is good!
Cheek Juliecheek.c o m she plays much like this. Love it!
What a joyful discovery. I was listening to Pandora, and then I thought, what a beautiful, elegant piece of music, and I was sure it was Chopin. When I opened my eyes, I discovered that it was the Escenas Romanticas by Enrique Granados.
Myyyyyyyyyyy y freakin GOODNESS, I LUV this music 2 pieces!!!

I found this on my Scott Joplin, how fitting! Very good Pandora! !
I encourage everyone to read the story of how this man dies.

Brilliant composer.

What a fantastic discovery, beautiful!
sacredfun6
Amazing that Spanish Dances was not written for guitar, but piano...
Rrr
Mr. Bream is a joy to listen to, but have to admit I prefer his baroque stuff far more, also it sounds like he is playing on a spruce guitar, too bright. His bass strings are dead sounding, and the trebles over done. I have to go play this, one of my favorite songs to play for the wall.
jesse6895
that's cool!

i love classical music ... it just relaxes me when im stressed and this is one of my favorite composers. I love playing or even listening to this music because i play the cello in orchestra at school !!.

I absolutely adore Granados! I first really paid attention to his works when I entered music school at Southwest TX State Univ. in 1996. My closest friend in school played his Spanish Dances so beautifully it brought tears to my eyes. Muy Bonita!!!! susiespianos t u d i o
could lick the fine hairs off a cats avocado with a cattle-prod
Beautiful and elegant music from an idyllic past, and yet that rare scintillatin g flame may still live within each of us.
Good correction. Also the ship wasn't going from New York. He had missed his boat from America to Spain, and had to sail to England instead. Then he was taking the ferry Sussex across the Channel to Dieppe when it was torpedoed by a U-boat. It appears he jumped out of the life boat to save his wife and they were both drowned. Ironically, the ship did not sink, and most of the passengers were saved.
christine.cl o v e r
i was wrong, the ship was the Sussex and it occurred in 1917. The Lusitania sank in 1915.
christine.cl o v e r
Granados and his wife were tragically lost at sea when the Lusitania was torpedoed in 1916.

boricua-mami 7 8
I simply enjoy listening to this genre of music in the morning while I'm getting ready for work. It reminds me of an olden era,in which I did not live physically,b u t spiritually. ;)
mayginin
Absolutely spiritual is how this composition makes me feel !
Lovely. It takes me away, far away.
I sat and smoked a bit and forgot what I was thinking about.
Granados was a great Spanish composer but underneath you have a list under Similar Composers who are Schumann, Glazunov, Chabrier, Tchaikovsky, and Chopin. They were respectively German, Russian, French, Russian and Polish. Their music sounds nothing like Granados'.
.
this guy has a major mustachio!
