Dr. Buzzard's Original Savannah Band

Dr. Buzzard's Original Savannah Band was one of the most original musical ensembles of the disco era. They were formed in the Bronx in 1974 by Stony Browder, Jr. (b. 1949), his brother August Darnell (born Thomas Browder, 1951), singer Cory Daye (b. 1952), Andy Hernandez (b. 1950), and Mickey Sevilla (b. 1953). The concept of the group was the re-creation of a '30s dance band, à la Cab Calloway, with witty lyrics and a disco beat. All of this was in evidence on their debut album, Dr. Buzzard's Original Savannah Band, released in 1976. It produced the dancefloor hit "Cherchez la Femme" and went gold. A follow-up album, Dr. Buzzard's Original Savannah Band Meets King Pennett, was less successful. After the release of a third album, James Monroe HS Presents Dr. Buzzard's Original Savannah Band Goes to Washington, the group fragmented, with Darnell and Hernandez going off to form Kid Creole & the Coconuts. Browder reorganized and issued a Dr. Buzzard's Savannah Band (dropping the "original") album titled Calling All Beatniks! in 1984. ~ William Ruhlmann, Rovi

For a long time I thought I was the only one that had heard of this group and this Album which is one of my all time favorites. I got strange looks at first when I told folks the name of the band. Wasn't long before they were jammin their heads off after I played it.
love the band and music
My parents played this all the time...one of my favorite albums
George used to bump this at the BOOMBAMAKAO on Broadway and 50th Street!!!!!!
I am a disco kid, and this is the one of the best things that came out of disco. My family and myself including 2 generations offspring know every single word to the first album. Every family reunion the Dr. is there.
The Whole Album is timeless!!!
Just luv Dr. Buzzard's Original Savannah Band I don't think there's that there is anything close 2 da Dr. B rite now.
Learned lesson can't always please people.

70s babies rock! Love this Album. Culture music and definitely made NY PJ days seem like we had the world even if we didn't. Back in the days we did not have technology that made us part of a matrix like today. People danced felt conversed a d socialized real face to face in human form. Technology has brought great advances but slowly takes away the true meaning of humanity.
It was the one album of it's time that you knew all the words to every song. Fun times growing up in New York City in the 70's. Starship discovery, Underground, The Ice Palace,The Loft, The Tunnel, CBGB'S Funhouse, Studio and Xenons.. Let's not forget Paradise Garage. It was non stop partying. The music never stopped. Thank God we are still here to tell the stories. Life is good.
My Mom used to sing all these songs to us when we were kids growing up Puerto Rico. Can't enough of this album.
I HAVE BEEN LISTENING TO THIS BAND SINCE I WAS A SMALL CHILD... THIS IS THE TYPE OF MUSIC THAT OTHER GREAT ARTISTS LISTENED TO.
can't stay away...DMFAO ( d a n c i n g my fat a** off)
