The sixties, sweet smoke, shared secretes in the night, dreams and fears. Listening to the long musical riff, it all comes back and every muscle relaxes.
What took so long to play this song on my 70's and 80's station? It's one of the greatest songs ever as long as you don't take the long solo out. If you do, though, it's still OK, but not great.
This song bothered Jim because the crowd would yell it out as a request and this was one of the few songs the poet Jim Morrison did not write. The irony is this is the song history will remember him for...the man was an unbelievable poet and wordsmith and traveler of both time and space.
musically thin but lyrics so far ahead of its time. Only Jim Morrison could have pulled this off. Back in 1968, I'm not sure my parents truly understood how provocative the lyrics were.
