The fight may not be worth fighting but the song is definitely worth singing.

Oh one of my all-time favorite bands - and amazing people in it to boot! Been listening/fo l l o w i n g since they were one fell swoop. Don't hear much from them because they'd rather stay indie, but I'm thrilled to hear them on Pandora. :)
But they don't. That's the problem. People, especially people in power, tend to be selfish and greedy. At the societal level, this leads to certain groups either coveting others' resources or using other groups as scapegoats for their own problems, which leads to conflict. I wish it wasn't the case, but we have to deal with reality. I actually like Dispatch's sound, but not their message. I will get off my soapbox now.

And just think, if everybody juggled hackeyscks.. . .
And then after the other army killed the general, they proceeded to raze the general's country to the ground, since there was no longer an opposing army and they were not as enlightened as the general. Typical hippy-dippy, hackeysack juggling, propaganda. Might sound good in college, but doesn't sound so good once you have been out in the real world a few years.
you cant do math blucey its 3 dollars a month go back to 3rd grade

@Matt Kohanek-- Dude, it's $36 a year for Pandora premium... $2 a month... not a bad deal, huh?
I love this song!

The story of the song is sad. It makes me think of James Smith. He would never abandon anybody. He would never leave anybody behind. While the song is tragically sad, it makes me monumentally happy.
,,I "General-ly" like this song,,
yet another amazing gem I have found thats to Pandora. $36/month (ow whatever the yearly rate is) is steep for a music station (especially considering satellite radio prices), but I am really starting to broaden my musical horizons thanks to the music genome project pandora talks about so much. Anyone who is liking Dispatch and hans't heard 'The General' listen to it asap!
edit - oh, hehe I am commenting on the forum for 'The General' - I thought I was on a Dispatch forum lol. Still an awesom

hmm I wonder if they read 'Ender's Game' by Orson Scott Card before writing this song.
This is one of my all-time favorite songs, but if it really makes you happy, I wonder if you've read the lyrics. The tune is incredibly catchy and bouncy, but the story is terribly sad.
I served too. Two tours. ...that was back in my indoctrinate d , ignorant days... There is NO achievement in killing others to support the cabal that runs our country. The spirit of this song is much better than the crap our gov't has fed us. Iraq was about oil, not valor, not peace, nothing but oil money.
one of the greatest songs of all time.
Abbles56: I think what Kyle Rodgers is saying is that the Medal of Valor is his greatest achievement, further more, I believe he is stating that he wonders how the opposing 13 men (I assume there was more than this that bravely also risked their lives for their cause in battle) were not the victors in thier struggle. Kyle Rodgers, your service in our U.S. Marine Corps demands the greatest of respect and I congradulate you on your citation of the Medal of Valor, a great accomplishme n t .
krodger, i appreciate your service, really, but how could killing 13 men be your greatest achievement?
chaseman29
this song is so inspiring for my band and i. we learned this song, and its MY alltime favorite song. but damn krodgers, that's crazy. no matter what mood i'm in, this song makes my day alot better. trippy too.
4 years ago while in Ramadi, Iraq I was awarded a medal for valor while taking part in a firefight that resulted in at least 13 enemy dead, many of which I am personally responsible for. To this day it my life's greatest achievement, yet when I hear "The General" I wonder why it couldn't have gone his way.
This song always lifts my spirits, hearing it always leaves me with a smile! :-)

I love this song. It always gets turned, no matter where I'm at.

I've been a Dispatch fan since 2002. This is one of many GREAT songs. Wish they would get back together and stop in Tallahassee. I'd get everyone I know to attend... (hint hint)
My college age son and I sing this together at the top of our shaky voices! What an amazing song!!!

Love it!!! Amazing!!!!! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !
It's all about COMMUNICATIO N S ! MASS COMMUNICATIO N !
Many of you will find that this song is -really- catchy, and aren't sure why other than it's got a good flow. Well, like many other "catchy" songs, this song utilizes the chord progression from "Canon in D" by Johann Pachelbel. Just to name a few other songs that were the same way, "Hook" by Blues Traveler, "Graduation" by Vitamin C, "Tin Soldier" by Coven. Don't get me wrong.. awesome tune, just stating the similarity.
why does this song have no thumbs up or thumbs down.. is this pandora payola?

If only modern day Generals would follow in this ones footsteps.
does anyone know who originally wrote this song?

Amazing song
For some reason, this reminds me of Longstreet, Robert E. Lee's right hand general in the Civil War. He tried desperately to convince Lee not to attack the North (Pickett's Charge) because he knew it was hopeless. He knew the men were doomed and couldn't watch... I keep thinking he might have tried this tactic in our modern times.

Great song, BTW.
love it!!!!
great song
favorite song ever.
