The nephew of influential Jamaican producer Osbourne "King Tubby" Ruddock, Digital K (born Keith Ruddock) has carved his own niche as an imaginative producer of dub recordings. Based in Miami, FL, since 1985, Digital K continues to fuse sampling, reggae, hip-hop, soul, jungle, house, roots, acid jazz, and blue funk into what he called "the new dub."
Digital K served a long apprenticeship with his uncle. As a child, he spent hours at King Tubby's recording studio in the Waterhouse district of Kingston, meeting such artists as Bob Marley, U-Roy, and Bunny Lee. By his 15th birthday, he had become a full-time assistant at the studio. After moving to the United States, he worked briefly under his uncle's protégé, Scientist. Releasing an album, King Tubby's in the House, in 1996, Digital K celebrated the eclectic span of his dubs with such tracks as "Dancehall Jazz Dub," "House Jazz Dub," "Piano Dub," "Hip Hop Dub," and "Gangsta Dub." ~ Craig Harris, Rovi
