The progressive power metal band Demons & Wizards was a side project for Blind Guardian vocalist Hansi Kursch and Iced Earth guitarist Jon Schaffer; it also featured onetime Iced Earth drummer Mark Prator. Demons & Wizards recorded a self-titled debut in 1999, with Schaffer also handling bass on the record (occasional lead guitar was contributed by guest Jim Morris). Already available in Europe, Demons & Wizards was issued in the U.S. in early 2000 by Steamhammer/SPV. ~ Steve Huey, Rovi
Can I just say that the cover of Immigrant Song is awesome? Don't know why people below were bashing it... I think they did a fine job putting their style to it...I listen to the cover more than the original because of how powerful it is
I got the first album special edition (with the pop up fiddler and bonus track)when it came out and listened to it till it wouldn't play. Being a fan of the Dark Tower series the second album was a homerun for me too!
@Yoho: You nailed it. It was Jon's wife and yes it was Hansi who was always correcting her. However, Christina is part right in that the name is in reference to the Uriah Heep album. I can't find a confirmed release date, so I'm assuming there isn't one yet.
@Ghost.Face: I believe the band name is actually based on a comment a spouse made about Schaffer and Kursch's respective musical styles, comparing them to demons and angels until one of them (I'm thinking Hansi) corrected her and changed it to wizards. And then they used that as the band name.
Is there a confirmed release date? Because I'm so buying it when it hits, the first two albums were both excellent - as far as I'm concerned Kursch and Schaffer can do no wrong.
@Yoho: Nice. I picked up the Bodom covers album and Norther's new album. I still have a bunch on my massive list of albums I need to buy. This is just a few:
Those Whom the Gods Detest,Anhilation of the Wicked, Twilight of the Thunder God, Hearlding the Fireblade, Ragnarok, Eric the Red, Spirit of the Forest, Sideshow Symphonies, and anything I can find by Limbonic Art. The actual list is much much longer than that but I won't bore you with the complete list as it's too extensive at the moment!
@LLM: Your feelings of jealousy are immensely validating, ha ha!
But seriously, my compulsive album buying habits have really fleshed out my music collection lately (this week alone I've picked up albums by Savatage, Eden's Curse, Cloudscape, Axel Rudi Pell, and a couple classical compilations of 99 songs apiece). It's becoming increasingly unwieldy to navigate through it without subdividing into different genres, heh.
And now I own Touched By The Crimson King as well, huzzah!
The only downside to my orgy of album buying tonight is that the combined prices worked out to $49.94, and I was using a $50 gift card. Stupid 6 cent remainder, can't buy anything with you!
Haven't got my Pandora station to play this yet, but I did just pick up the Demons & Wizards album after it showed up on my Amazon recommendations list for a measly $6.
I mean, we don’t have to do it on any specific schedule. We had a really long talk about it and I’m really looking forward to it because I always enjoy working with Hansi and just spending time with him. So, our first get-together is going to be late in the year, but before that I’ve got a few things going on and like I said, we’ll announce it in due course.
We are not going to be bogged down by schedules – we’re going to do this as we see fit and we’re not going to let a particular window of opportunity dictate that this is when we have to do it. We’re going to do it as it feels natural – and if we feel that in Spring of 2010 that we don’t have the songs yet then we’ll push it back.
I mean I’m proud of that record (“Touched by the Crimson King” 2005) and it sold killer and it’s a good album but I think Hansi and I are capable of a lot more especially when we get back to the root reasons of why we did this thing together.
We’re going to have two song writing sessions. We are committed to doing the bulk of this in-person. One of the things I felt like from the last Demons album was that we hhad this window of opportunity where we had to get it done and we kind of let time dictate the schedule instead of our feelings and that was probably a mistake.
From an interview w/ Jon Schaffer: Hansi and I have planned late in 2009 to get together to do DEMONS (and WIZARDS) stuff so that’s going to be cool. We saw each other in Cologne (earlier this year) and made plans and I think it’s realistic to say that there will be a third DEMONS and WIZARDS album probably mid- to late 2010.

anyone know if they are going to make another album. i cant wait for another taste of the awesomeness. and godsmack suck hard hairy balls so shut the f**k up willow and go talk about your obsession for godsmack on the godsmack page. im pretty sure half of the people who commented on that page will hate you because of your retarded ideas.
Hey Will.Oh, go jump in the Arctic Ocean, you freak! I dare you to come up with a positive comment about any band except Godsmack, Disturbed or AIC. As a funny side note to you, Will.Oh: You fail at life, and you also fail at seeing the greatness of awesome metal bands. P.S. That category does not include Godsmack!
Speed metal can you keep up! Very fine musicians! Keep it up D & W.

There are times when the vocalist sounds a lot like Dee Snider (Twisted Sister). Keep in mind this is the first time I'm really hearing these guys though. Not too bad for speed metal.

Beautiful, tasteful, and very emotional material. very clean musicianship- vocals are excellent.
In case anyone is wondering, the Title song Fiddler on the Green has an amazing story behind it, one that makes the lyrics take on a whole new meaning. It is one of the most awesome story behind a song ever: one day Hansi was out walking when he came to a stop light and saw a little boy get run over by a car; it killed him. This really affected Hansi, and a week later he was out, when he saw the same thing happen to a little girl, she was killed right in front of him. Realizing the significance
...of the tradgedy, he wrote the song about the little girl who one day is visited by the remorseful Grim Reaper, who explains to her that he made a mistake and took the life of a little boy too early, and that that little boy was destined to marry the little girl. So the little boy is now in the after life, lonely and waiting for his soul-mate. The Grim Reaper askes the little girl if she would join him, and she accepts. My favorite song ever, I got this from an interview w/ Jon Schaffer.

Now Sonata Arctica, they base stuff off of WoW.

So awesome!
Edit: Huzzah! Got it to show up on my station!
Demons & Wizards isn't the blood of Metal.
Technically Rock is the blood of Metal seeing as Rock is mother to all
Its cheesy. Mainly the vocals and the dramatic nature of it, just...corny .
