After the San Diego-based emo outfit Noise Ratchet called it quits in 2004, co-founders Jon Jameson (bass) and Brandon Young (drums) decided to ditch their punk-influenced sound for something more rootsy. The two left Rick Rubin's American label (which had signed Noise Ratchet several years prior) and joined forces with vocalist Matthew Vasquez, guitarist Sean Walker, and multi-instrumentalist Kelly Winrich to form Delta Spirit. Pitching its style between the indie rock and alt-country camps, the group issued an EP entitled I Think I've Found It in 2006 and hit the road alongside Cold War Kids and Dr. Dog.
Delta Spirit's debut album, Ode to Sunshine, was released by the bandmates themselves in 2007. It reappeared one year later in a remastered format courtesy of the band's new label, Rounder Records. Reviews for the record were highly favorable, and the group toured heavily before traveling to Prairie Sun Studios in 2009 for the creation of a second album. The finished product, History from Below, was released in June 2010. Just before their third album, Delta Spirit, was released in 2012, the group underwent some changes. Walker left the band and was replaced by guitarist Will McLaren, and the group moved from Long Beach, California to Brooklyn, New York. ~ Andrew Leahey, Rovi
This band came to Honolulu to headline Hallowballoo, a Halloween festival/street party. When an overly cautious tsunami warning and downtown evacuation canceled their show, they played for FREE the very next night in a local club. It was a very cool thing to do. They rock!
These guys played a fantastic set at Maha Music Festival this past weekend.

I've seen them a couple of times, including last Sunday in Santa Ana, and I agree with all of you... One of the best bands out there right now HANDS DOWN!!!
Saw Delta Spirit the other night w/My Morning Jacket and they were amazing. Wish they could have played longer though. Can't wait to see them on their own tour!
So them this weekend in Chicago. Great live show. They play the heXX out of their instruments. I with their album reflected that energy a little more. Live album would be a great addition to what they are doing. Matt came down after the show to take pics with fans and thanked everyone he could for coming to the show, real eye-opener on how much it personally means to them. I wish I had that kind of energy and love for anything. Made me want to pick up my guitar and form a band.
I went to watch The Shins in Seattle, and came out completely falling in love with every facet of this band. They are completely unique and worth a listen ... or 12.
One of the best bands at Lollapalooza . We did a collective congrats to the lead singer's brother who was getting married. Love a band that is so personable with the crowd! Superb...

Ridiculous band live. Brought a friend to a show who hadn't heard them before ~ and he dug it instantly! Matt and all the musicians are very, very talented. I hope they put out another record soon!
definitely a great band and an awesome album. My roommate and saw them at the beach to brewery bike festival at the karl strauss brewery in san diego and they were great. Listened to there cd about 10 times on a cross country drive recently. Good stuffin!!
I just saw them live last night at WWU in Bellingham and it was absolutely amazing. Matthew was red in the face at some points because he was singing so hard and they often had two people playing precussion which produced a beautiful sound. The bassist Jon was definitely my favorite to watch live though. They opened for the Shins (favorite band of all time).
