Nobody gonna take my car, I'm gonna race it to the ground Nobody gonna beat my car, it's gonna break the speed of sound Ooh it's a killing machine it's got everything Like a drawing power big fat tires everything

Tremendously great song with one of Ritchie Blackmore's best solos ever with the Bach progression and outstanding plectrum wielding, not to mention the epochal tone from his Strat and Major. Has to be in the very top solos of anybody at any time.
Hiway Star is representative of some of their best work, much of which can be found on the "Machine Head" album. If you're looking for authentic and unapologetic Rock 'n' Roll, that album made it into just about everybody's collection in the '70's. Still holds up very well.
No doubt, the Made In Japan recording is the premier version of this song - far better than the studio version.
(Metal Church? Uh...yeah, ok. Ooo boy. Egad.)

Rarely does a cover top the original and this is no exception. Metal Church did an excellent version of Highway Star, but it is not better DP's. IMHO, Deep Purple's best ever effort at this one is on Made In Japan.

Both are classics though.
