Yes, his demeanor is sorrowful. And yes, we should mourn cherished times that have come to pass. However change is not sad. This song is commemoratin g a romantic relationship that has come and gone. Relationship s are characterize d by their impermanence . And that is exactly why they cannot be the cake. They are the icing. As a human population we make our relationship s our identity. This song is beautiful because it opens our eyes to uncomfortabl e truth. Something all music should do.
