Pandora describes Ben Gibbard as a breathy male lead vocalist on this track. I don't know where they're coming from; I'd say he's anything but breathy.
Ok even though this song could relate to a stalker, I'd like to think it could relate to a person who is truely in love, and just very persistant. My wife of 12 years didn't fall in love with me until she got to know me better, although I pretty much fell in love the first time we met. Yeah I was persistant. (of course she didn't reject my advances, just naively didn't know my intent was to be more than friends. )
I thought I remembered Ben saying something about this... http://www.songfacts.com/detail.php?id=11212 Gibbard wrote in an article in Pulse magazine: "The single on our record is a work of fiction that was inspired by things that happened to some people close to me. It's called 'I Will Possess Your Heart,' and it's eight-and-a-half minutes long. It's five minutes of build and then a three-minute song. The song is basically about a stalker. It's about this nice guy who wants this girl he can't ha
This song has great layering in the intro, the build-up is intense, finishing off with hair-raising passion. I'd love to hear this live, dancing till there was no more sole attached to my shoes.

i think the intro is great...if you really listen to the instruments especially the drum high-hats, they get stronger and louder like build up of emotions. Perfect.
This song is good though I think the intro could be cut off a bit. This is not a song for stalkers, songs are for anybody. What you mean by gay is stupid the term gay means homosexual it is not an opinon for music. This song is really good. It gives a relaxed but creepy feeling. -:P

This song is not a gay song, it is not a stalker song, and no negative adjectives should be used to describe it. This song is about a man that will get the woman he wants to fall in love with him. He's not a stalker, he's confident. It's a beautiful song with beautiful lyrics.
I don't know, Emma. The lines "There are days when outside your window, I see my reflection as I slowly pass" have a definite stalker vibe to them. The song also tells us that the girl has already rejected the guy, but he still wants to "possess" her. I don't find that notion especially romantic, and I don't think we're meant to.
it really pisses me off when people say this is a song for stalkers. it's about how his confidence in his ability to make the girl of his dreams fall in love with him. get it together, people.
huh, I heard the radio version, youtube version, and the pandora version, and they were all the same. now the pandora version seems to lack vocals and I thought it was broken or something. Now I know this is the true version.

The first 4+ minutes is the best part of the song.
Thanks Pandora.

This is not my opinion - it is fact.
