If you live your life like your under contract, better make sure there is a contract worth more than a hand shake on a contractual handshake, and a man's good word ain't what it used to be. Some recognize the trap long before the others do. I guess the ol group has to make a real escape plan.
Clearly, this record is about his escape from the wrath of Roger Waters and the conflicting/controlling relationship that erupted after Wish You Were Here came out in 1975. David Gilmour is one of the most brilliant guitarists on this planet. Roger is one of the most brilliant writers/conceptionalists of his time as well. Unfortunately, what happens after a decade of decadence is selfishness, ego, control, and what eventually turned out to be Animals, completely sucks.. The rest is history.
Sometimes what gives order to life may seem like trappings after awhile, especially when what was once done for fun becomes a constant or a means to an end. Always having to make choices due to an original choice made previously can seem overwhelming, I guess all depends on ones better judgement if they chose the right path, but there is always another path to take that doesn't have to lead to nowhere. Sometimes you might have to hunt and peck.
You ultimately waist your time on
earth, regardless what you do with
your time. There are arbitray social cultural
values that set the patch-work rules for what is
"waisting time" or not. Existential enough for you?
Gilmour is clearly closer to God than most of us...he has a talent that few will ever have, very clear to hear the voice that moves us, long live the Floyd they called Pink
