Dave sounds Awesome on Chain Reaction, so much fun to listen to. He's definitely one of the most exciting drummers I've ever heard play. And that's up against all the best. Wackerman, Bozio, all the best guys, he stands out.

Sorry I meant Nite Sprite

I first saw Weckl when he was still at UB. He blew me away even then. If you want to see really old Weckl, look for Night Sprite on YouTube.
An old friend of mine was DW's roommate at Bridgeport. My friend was a respectable jazz drummer but said that DW was in a league of his own as a teenager.

I have been a jazz drummer for over 30 years, and these grooves just stick with a passion.

Dave is a very slick drummer. Check out him vinnie and steve on youtube.
Drummers, guitar players, keyboards....etc. Every player is as unique as his or her fingerprint. Everyone draws from there own experience and influences. There are those not as technically skilled but still have something interesting to say. You going to like what appeals to you from your own experience and influences. I guess what I'm saying is either it's all good or it's all bad.
a percussionist greatest attribute is to accentuate the tune... not going to who is best but Weckl does that very well... I as a drummer am not a fan of a 17 minute drum solo
yeah sure Weckl's a great drummer. But I just can't get into this "sound" of jazz. It's the same way I can't appreciate all those guitar "shredders". Music first, virtuosity, technicality much later....this is more musicicans music, I just can't get into the feel at all...
You guys keep mentioning "Neil Pert", I'm guessing you're talking about Rush's drummer - it's Neil PEART.

Hey Guys, Always remember Buddy Rich was playing these licks and fills, solos before these other drummers were in diapers. Doing drum battles with Max Roach and Gene Krupa. Weckl, Cobbham, Pert, etc learned from listening to Buddy, and then extending his ideas!! I
My best friend's dad played keyboards for Buddy's band, and I got to see Buddy up close and today leaves me wondering how did he do that?! He was a very brash man! Check out a Tribute to Buddy put togrther by Neil Pert!!

to Mr. Charles:
Buddy and Cobham were both great drummers, but Weckl is better. Honestly, Buddy and Cobham pretty much just had chops going for them, and neither had the feel or groove that Weckl does. And he's not the most amazing drumemr out there either. Look at guys like Marco Minneman, Virgil Donati, Terry Bozzio, and Thomas Lange if you want to see the most technically skilled drummers out there.
this is a good drummer. the comparison to Buddy Rich is to say the least very over rated..... Buddy Rich/ Blly Cobham ...thats it!!!!!! then another level down from these greats!!!!!! where do some of your critics come from AMG???
Hi, I went to see DW here at a Drum clinic in Milw. WI Im a drummer and have seen the best drummer of all time Buddy Rich many times in concert, and you can hear Buddy in DW! Yes, one of the best with Neil Pert, Steve Gadd, Dennis Chambers, Phil Collins, Chad Wackerman etc

If you ever get the chance to see DW play live don't pass it up. I've been able to with Chick C., in drum clinics and last month with Mike Stern. Nothing short of amazing. Me, I'm not a drummer, just a huge fan of musicianship . Weckl will turn your head around.
