Cry Of Love

After a couple years of slogging it out down in the South, Cry of Love released their debut album, Brother, in 1993. Cry of Love was not cut from the same cloth as most of the '90's hard rock bands. Instead of sludgy Sabbath steals, punk rips, or grunge, the band faithfully recreated the classic hard rock sounds of the '70s. From Bad Company to Lynyrd Skynyrd, all of the staples of classic rock could be heard in their music; guitarist Audley Freed wrote riffs that seemed like lost album tracks from 1975. And AOR fans paid tribute -- they made "Peace Pipe" and "Bad Thing" major radio hits. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, Rovi

I discovered these guys recently and was disappointed they only did two albums. Definitely the best rock band ever, no doubt. The best recorded guitar sound ever. My absolute favorite band.

Cry Of Love was an American rock band formed in 1991 in Raleigh, North Carolina. The group released their debut album in 1993 (Brother), produced by John Custer before playing the Monsters of Rock festival the following year. They scored a number-one hit on Billboard's Mainstream Rock chart with Peace Pipe in 1993. After this show, their frontman,Kel l y Holland left the group.

Robert Mason was recruited as Holland's replacement some three years later. Together they recorded a new album in 1

they actually have 2 releases...t h e i r second was callDiamonds and Debris which had a second singer. I'm from N.C. and these guys used to do shows with us at The Brewery in Raleigh back in the day. Awsome guys and musicians. Audley Freed now lives in Nashville and has toured with Black Crowes,Peter Frampton, dix i e Chicks,Joe Peryy and many more...

I'm with Brent. Brother Cain was around about the same time and was absolutely terrific. Found them on the discount CD rack at Tower Records just like Cry of Love in 93. Wonder if we'll ever hear them on Pandora?
Report as inappropriate
I bought their Brother CD off the discount rack in 94, dug it, and went and saw them live at the Troubador in LA a few months later. Absolutely awesome! They sounded as good or better than the album. As a child of the 70's, their sound may have moved me more than for other people, but how could a band this freakin good not hit pay-dirt and become the superstars that they deserved to be? Great singer and killer guitarist. This will always be one of my all-time favorite albums.
