Guitarist Russ Freeman originally conceived of the Rippingtons as a changing lineup of strong contemporary jazz musicians. After releasing his debut solo album, Nocturnal Playground, in 1985, Freeman assembled the first version of the band, which featured David Benoit on piano and Brandon Fields, Dave Koz, and Kenny G on saxophones, for the appropriately titled Moonlighting (1986). Kilimanjaro, the first Rippingtons album to break into the pop charts, followed in 1988. As of 1989's Tourist in Paradise, the group was contracted to the GRP label. 1990's Welcome to the St. James Club and 1991's Curves Ahead both topped the contemporary jazz best-seller charts, and 1992's Weekend in Monaco was also a popular release. By 1993, the Rippingtons had solidified into a steady six-piece group including Freeman, Dave Kochanski on keyboards, Jeff Kashiwa on saxophone, Kim Stone on bass, Tony Morales on drums, and Steve Reid on percussion. That year saw the release of Live in L.A. In 1994, Freeman teamed with old partner David Benoit for The Benoit/Freeman Project and later in the year came Sahara, which altered the band's billing from "The Rippingtons Featuring Russ Freeman" to "Russ Freeman & The Rippingtons." In 1995, Freeman released a solo Christmas album, Holiday, followed by the eighth Rippingtons album, Brave New World, in 1995. ~ William Ruhlmann, Rovi
..another great reason why i listen to jazz.....but like others have said ,Pandora needs to do the right bio for the song that they're playing....not a copy an paste form from one to another.Just sayin'.

I've been a fan of the Rippingtons and Russ for a while; however, I'm kind of shocked that Craig Chaquico didn't get any mention in the bio associated with this JOINT project, since I'm also a long time fan of his work too. It looks like someone at Pandora just pasted Russ's bio and didn't bother to do Craig the courtesy of doing the same with his... Come on Pandora! I'm a big fan of you guys too ... how about taking a few minutes and add Craig's picture and bio too.
Beautiful, I just love it when 2 really good artists get together to make an album! : ) I love their song Riders Of The Ancient Winds....the guitars in that one is GORGEOUS!!!
Hello... Pandora? I think your content monkeys pasted the wrong AMG entry into this bio page. Nowhere in the description is Chaquico even mentioned. Step away from the doob and focus on the content, 'kay?
love your music. I have every cd you guys have made. Waitig for the next one. I hope it is soon.

As a long time listener to contemporary jazz and as one who lost the South Florida Smooth Jazz radio station, Pandora has made my smoothings happy again! This is Love!

Absolutely The BEST!! smooth jazz station!!! Listen to it all the time.
I first discovered Pandora on a Continental flight to Houston in 2004 - there was a blurb in the airline magazine about the Music Genome project and how that data was being morphed into a brand new music offering. Hooked ever since! It's how I found The Rippingtons and many others.

thanks Pandora for all this..the interesting tidbit on where these artists that i had no idea were once affiliated with each other. Bose told me about Pandora ..and wow how turned on i am to it!The Best!
Agree with Stock Pundit and Dr Michael Roth, below. Freeman is exceptional at keying in with other artists, yet still remains exclusive in his own right and above-board. For me as well, big vote of thanks to Pandora. I have 82 stations on their nut and love every bit of it. Way to go, guys! 12 of my family and friends now listen to Pandora since my suggestions.
Have had the opportunity to see Russ and the Rippingtons twice and each time their performance was stellar. Looking forward to more great music.
