genius how Common described hip hop as a women ..starts with bronx ..goes to west coast rap..then talks about conscious rap..talks about how rap got commercialized ..finally Common touches on the gangster rap and finishes by mentioning ONYX & DAS EFX (i see n**gas slamming her( onyx)and taking her to the sewer(Das Efx)but im'a take her back hopping that s**t stop...CAUSE WHO IM TALKING ABOUT IS HIP HOP....
This song started a beef with the Midwest and West coast AND brought a sense of well deserved credibility to Chicago Hip-Hop. Top 10 Song of all time in my eyes. Common is always on point.
Common > Kanye....both great though...and "Homecoming" mixtape version is way better than the radio friendly/single version Kanye recorded for the album.
Peace yall,
I had the honor and the priviledege to attend FAMU with rasheed and witness his mental mindstate. This song is the greatest song ever made in hip-hop history. Common was able to tell a true story about a musical movement by comparing the subject, music, metephorically to a woman. Geniues yall, Geniues.

This song is a hip hop classic. Kanye knew what he was doing, which was paying homage to the original Chicago MC, and his good friend. The beginning of "Homecoming" wasn't new to anyone who had heard hip hop pre-Soulja Boy
lol of course common knows he ripped this song! Rappers do this all the time and Kanye helped Common reserect his career again. They are friends in real life, I'm sure they talk music all the time.
Looks like Kanye ripped the whole idea of using the metaphor of a woman to talk about something like hip hop, or a city. I thought Kanye was so clever and innovative, but not as much after seeing that this template has already been used. Still love that Piano in Homecoming and the Coldplay guy.
