Clutch

Clutch combined elements of funk, Led Zeppelin, and metal with vocals inspired by Faith No More. Formed in 1991 in Germantown, MD, the group included Neil Fallon (vocals), Tim Sult (guitar), Dan Maines (bass), and Jean-Paul Gaster (drums). They built a local following through constant gigging, and after just one 7" single (the classic Earache release "Passive Restraints") Clutch was signed by EastWest Records. Their debut LP, Transnational Speedway League, followed in 1993. A self-titled album appeared two years later and afforded Clutch some mainstream exposure. They jumped to the larger Columbia label for 1998's Elephant Riders, and many thought the group might join their sonic cousins Korn and Deftones in the alternative metal winner's circle. That didn't quite happen. But it didn't matter, because a quality fan base continued to thrive for Clutch. Pure Rock Fury appeared in 2001, and the similarly uncompromising Blast Tyrant came three years later as their first for DRT Records. Their seventh full-length, Robot Hive/Exodus, followed in 2005 and featured the first lineup change since the early '90s, the addition of organist Mick Schauer. Among Clutch's numerous side releases were a groove-based album (2000's Jam Room), as well as Live at the Googolplex and the rarities record Slow Hole to China, both issued in 2003. Also issued in 2005, Pitchfork & Lost Needles combined Clutch's 1991 Pitchfork 7" with unreleased demos and early tracks. In the fall of 2006, the band hit the studio with producer Joe Barresi (Kyuss, Melvins) to record their next album; the resulting From Beale Street to Oblivion appeared in March 2007. In 2008, the band released a CD/DVD compilation of live tracks from shows in New Jersey, Pittsburgh, and Sydney titled Full Fathom Five: Audio Field Recordings 2007-2008 on their own label, Weathermaker Music. The band followed up in 2009 with Strange Cousins from the West, before delivering their tenth album, Earth Rocker, in 2013. ~ John Bush, Rovi

They always come to Toledo and bring the God Damn Thunder!
Got to see Clutch with White Zombie at the Fox in St.Louis sometime in the '90's...( it's all clouded)...C l u t c h puts on a sic show. Put it on your Bucket list.
Anyone else here see clutch play at Saratoga winners in cohoes NY. About ten years ago, good show with local acts
Saw them a cpl yrs ago with Hellyeah, one of the best shows I ever seen.
I've seen them twice. Once in '98 in Lawrence, Ks. and then this Jan (2014) with The Sword as the opener in Jacksonville .
Saw clutch play back in 2000 in Greenville, NC while I was stationed in the Marine Corps. I think the bar was Ziggy's??? It was a bar on Atlantic Beach. They played with Corrosion of Comformity. Imagine bar full of Marines, bikers and a small group of college kids from Eastern Carolina University at the same show...lol. Those college kids had no clue who was playing and how rowdy the crowd was about to become. Best show i've ever seen!!!!!

Saw them play in a f**king PIZZA PARLOR in Columbus Ohio in 1991. Freakin' Pizza off High St. used to host hardcore bands. I bought the Pitchfork 7 which had just been pressed, and I still have it. Jean-Paul kicked a HOLE in the bass drum! I said that night this band is unbelievable - and I stand by it to this day. Also caught them the following year opening for Biohazard in Germany while I was in the army. I'm proud to have been there since the beginning! Keep killin' it guys...
Yes I'm a new world Samurai, and a redneck nonetheless! ! ! !

Chalk up another vote saying you need to see Clutch live. They have an unbelievable amount of energy they bring to every show. I haven't missed a show at First Avenue in Minneapolis since 2004.

Also, Earth Rocker is incredible. Machine did an amazing job producing this album. He brought out the best in the band after a few so-so efforts.
ratwood61
Imagine them in a big biker bar!!
I must echo the masses - you MUST see Clutch live!!!! Most of their shows are small venues and the energy they pack is unmatched. I never miss a show in my area - you shouldn't either!!!!
The best hard rock band in business. Blast Tyrant is a classic, and their most recent album, Earth Rocker, is kick-a$$. If you haven't seen them live and you get the chance, go!!
I love Clutch the guitar is just so exact and intricate its just absolutely flawless the singing jus has that good grungy cracked voice the bass is awesome and the drums are terrific this band is just amazing in all category's you could think of

If you have never seen these guys live, you must do so at the earliest opportunity. Flawless execution, a tight and focused sound, and finally ENERGY. For me they are the standard by which all other touring acts are judged, and most never come close.

Rocks
Pandora band bio's are far to often inaccurate and are obviously not written by people who know much about music.
Latest offering (Earth Rocker) made EVERY hard rock/metal top (50-100) 2013 albums, including Album of Year 2013 from Metal Hammer! What's amazing is musicians love them, which is a complement to their talent. There are no signs of the Clutch train stopping and these guys have been doing it since 91', still original line up, very rare.
tallmadge78
Clutch OMG outta control they kick serious a** Neil is God love them live.
There really isn't a band out there u can compare Clutch to
I've been listening to these guys since the begining. I've seen them countless times, they put on one hell of a show. Had a beer with neil and he was seriously one cool guy. Keep rockin it clutch!!!
