Cliff Edwards

Singer Cliff Edwards first came to fame in the early '70s after he, along with his wife Anne Edwards, formed a group in 1965 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, called the Five Bells. It later became known simply as the Bells. Other members included Michael Waye, Dennis Wills, Doug Gravelle, Frank Mills, Jackie Ralph, Mickey Ottier, and Charlie Clark. With the Bells, Edwards found success in both Canada and the United States. After the group disbanded in 1973, he went on to a consequential solo career that lasted into the '80s.

Cliff Edwards stepped into the music world early on, playing gigs locally, building his fan base and polishing his skills as he went. With the Bells, he toured through a number of countries, doing live concerts and performing on major television shows like The Tonight Show. A 1971 single, "Stay Awhile," hit the charts and sold successfully worldwide. Other singles and albums followed, but never reached the same prominence.

Edwards began doing some solo work in 1972. When his group fell apart a year later, he was ready to pour all of his efforts into his own recordings. A long line of enjoyable singles were completed through the decade and into the next. Some of those singles are "She's My Woman," "Keep Your Hands Off," "There's a Fire Burning Still," "Singer of Songs," "What's Forever For," "Easier Said Than Done," and "Grab the Money and Run." There were also a few albums, most sticking with the kind of pop/rock Edwards normally offered fans, and one even crossing over into the country genre. Near the end of the '80s, he switched from singing to writing and producing Corner Shop, a television show for children. He has also worked as a cameraman for others programs. ~ Charlotte Dillon

This bio by Charlotte Dillon is not correct for the Cliff Edwards singing this song. The Cliff Edwards in the track was an actor and singer also known as Ukulele Ike, was the voice of Jiminy Cricket and other Disney characters. He was a well known Hollywood actor, on radio and tv.

Best known as the voice of Jiminy Cricket in Disney's "Pinnochio," Cliff Edwards had a long career as a vaudeville performer under the stage name Ukulele Ike. He came up with the moniker when a waiter in the club he was playing in (not remembering Cliff's name) referred to him as Ike. Though he had sold millions of records in the 20's and 30's, personal problems and the Depression hit him hard in later years, and towards the end, the only money he made was doing spots for Disney as Jiminy Cricke
