Formed in 2001, bluegrass sextet Cherryholmes spans two generations of the Nashville-via-Arizona-based family of the same name, including father Jere (bass/vocals), mother Sandy Lee (mandolin/vocals), daughters Cia Leigh (banjo/guitar/vocals) and Molly Kate (fiddle/vocals), and sons B.J. (fiddle/vocals) and Skip (guitar/mandolin/vocals). They have released three albums on their own label, Still a Little Rough Around the Edges (2001), Dressed for Success (2002), Bluegrass Vagabonds (2003) and three on the legendary Ricky Skaggs Skaggs Family label, 2004's eponymous Cherryholmes, which received a Grammy nomination in 2006, 2007's Cherryholmes II: Black and White and 2008's Cherryholmes III: Don't Believe. Cherryholmes IV: Common Threads followed in 2010. The band's electrifying live shows often feature Irish step dancing, old-time claw hammer banjo tunes, and even yodeling. The group is a regular performer at the prestigious Grand Ole Opry. ~ James Christopher Monger, Rovi
Heard them on Bluegrass Underground (great show) and I was hooked! Then immediately after seeing their performance I heard they broke up! Well, we still have the CD's. Good band, good vocals, good musicians.
I wish they would have stayed together. But, thats what happens when older bluegrass bands are looking for young pickers with nice pipes and great musical ability.
I've been a blues fan since 1956. I heard (paid attention) to bluegrass, as I'm sure so many others did, as a result of " Brother, Where Art Thou". Now I'm nuts about BG, especially great talents like this group.

These guys are great but the article is in error B.J. plays an energy packed version of mandolin and fiddle, Skip plays guitar.
I saw them at Purdue University. I took my then eight year old -- it was his first concert -- he loved it . . . I loved 'This is my son' among many others! After the show, we were able to meet the family and talk with them -- they were kind and both Cia and Molly Kate took time to acknowledge my son ("He's so cute . . .") and even talked to him briefly about his playing music . . . I will be a fan for years to come . . . Thank you Cherryholmes !
These guys blew me away the first time I heard them. Most exciting traditional bluegrass band since Del McCoury - I kid not. I can't wait to see them in concert.
Great comments for a premier, fantastic bluegrass band. The Cherryholmes are one of the most talented family bands, or any band for that matter in the bluegrass, roots genre.I look forward to seeing them live 1 day, but for now I have all 3 of their albums, and they are great. Cia, banjo, and vocals has one of the most beautiful voices in the genre today,"Tell Me Why","How Long"

We just saw them in Kalamazoo at Miller Auditorium. Before then I could take or leave bluegrass, but after seeing & hearing Cherryholmes, I'm hooked! This is a very talented group and would recommend that you see them!!
