Cause & Effect

Robert Rowe and Sean Rowley formed the dance-pop group Cause & Effect in California in 1990. Combining Rowe's vocals and guitars with the keyboards and synthesizers of Rowley, the duo released a self-titled full-length in 1991 on the independent Exile label. The album caught the attention of Zoo Records, which signed the band and released a slightly different version of the album as Another Minute. Two singles reached the charts in 1992: "You Think You Know Her" hit number 38, while "Another Minute" made it to number 75.

Adding drummer Richard Shepherd, the duo headed out for a tour in late 1992. Just before one show, however, Rowley passed away from a heart attack due to his asthma. All remaining shows were canceled, but Rowe and Shepherd resumed Cause & Effect one year later with longtime friend Keith Milo. The trio worked with producer Martyn Phillips and released Trip in 1994. A single from the album, "It's Over Now (It's Alright)," reached number 67 on the charts in August of that year. Both Keith Milo and Richard Shepherd have worked as producers, Milo with Dania Morales of Anything Box and Shepherd with Sacramento band the Adored.

Innermost Station, Cause & Effect's long-awaited sequel to Trip, was released in the summer of 1999. ~ John Bush, Rovi

They totally sounded like DM. Come on. Still good however.
I always loved this song..... Long live 80's new wave and new romantic music!!!
These guys we're about 5 years too late, very good but sound too much like too many other people from 1988
They sound like Red Flag not so much DM

I heard You Think You Know Her on the radio on two successive spring breaks in Orlando ('93 and '94) and could NEVER find who performed it. I did lyrics search from what I could remember, which was wrong. THANK YOU PANDORA!
Man this is one of those forgotten gems that resurfaced, thanks Pandy!
why does everyone think they sound like Depeche Mode? I hear a little of thier sound but these guys sound like they took their whole career from Information Society!
Super cool
so did info soc
And yes, Camo and C&E both had that depechie sound.... but good in their own right....
I remember when Sean died. It was really sad. C&E played at a local club often and everybody in sac that was in the scene would go see them... they were def a local favorite.... . loved very much. It was really sad, like loosing a very good friend. He was very nice. Both of them.

I heard the DM comparison from the beginning... . . W h e n I played the beginning of Farewell To Arms...I thought Wow..they do! but most of it is softer edged, pop-ish and kind of like the Tears For Fears comparison. Who knows?....ju s t my 2 cents. Awesome band!! Probably the top pick for me in the Best band to fall back on in Synthpop genre category.
Everyone says they sound like DM (my personal fav) I hear Tears for Fears more. I do like it.

I thought Camouflage sounded more like DM
I guess the DM comparisons are inevitable but to be honest, as a full-time club-DJ since way before C&E first hit the scene I never thought of the band as anything other than the unique entity of "Cause & Effect". Yes, musically the sound is similar but I don't make that DM connection to C&E lyrically. Still, both bands are in the handful I call my favorites (along with New Order, PetShopBoys, Erasure and The Cure).
One of the BEST bands of the genere! One of only a handful of artists who made Dance Music cool! Their tracks helped keep my dance floors full "cool people" in New Orleans, Biloxi, Hattiesburg, etc. Caught their live show in Jackson (MS) with InSoc one week before the Milnnasota tragedy that took Sean from us.
Another Minute is the Jam!!!!!

Message from Steve Baker/ www.causeand e f f e c t .
This album is a must own...if you love classic DM sound..you will enjoy this whole album. C&E really put together some great lyrics and music that makes this a great album!!!
More Depeche Mode than Depeche Mode
Great band...
Love it!
Please play selections form Innermost Station and The Sunrise. Thank you.

I love their style, and while most of their albums seem less noticed, they had a style from Trip through their Sunrise EP that certainly was their own- very smooth, compassionat e , and moving. While it had a certain twinge of depth, their music was very upbeat and inspiring.
good song and hard to find!

"You think you know her, but you never really lived a life without her." Keeping the sound of old school Depeche Mode alive is what they did best!
inside out is the best songout there its from their trip album
