Comprised of the Harlem duo Vast Aire and Vordul Megilah, Cannibal Ox debuted in 2001 on the Def Jux label with The Cold Vein, produced by El P. A couple of singles, Vein and The F Word accompanied the album's release. ~ Jason Birchmeier, Rovi
I remember I 1st heard of Cannibal Ox on the B-boy show with B-boy and Gabe Real on the UCR college radio station. I miss that show and living in SoCal.
incredible hiphop music. i remember when they came out on Tony Hawk. with the scream phoenix track. then of course the best damn rap tour went off the chain with c-rayz and 4th pyramid. still the best in the industry
DEF JUKIES!!!!
One of the greatest (GREATEST!) underground HipHop albums of all time. Vast Aire's poetic flow, along with Vordul's guerilla-like way of spitting lyrics, combined with El-P's production make this a true classic. Cannibal Ox simply inspires one to believe that HipHop still has hope and that all is not lost within the landscape of art, music and true culture. Long live Cannibal Ox regardless!
The Cold Vein was an example of truly prophetic hip-hop and the production still sounds fresh today (thank you El-P). I've had this album for years and I still spin it regularly. Vast Aire and Vordul Megilah are masters of bringing it intellectually, poetically and hard... all at the same time. They rap about real s**t, and paint a tragically beautiful portrait of life in inner-city NY. I lament on a regular basis the fact that the OX had to die. Peace and the Lord's blessing to Vordul!
