German deathcore band Caliban was formed in 1997, and signed almost immediately with Lifeforce Records, which released their eponymous EP the very next year. A hard-working bunch, the band then embarked on a relentless touring and recording schedule, traveling as far as America and Japan while intermittently putting out records like 1999's Small Boy and a Grey Heaven, 2000's split CD with labelmates Heaven Shall Burn, 2001's Vent, and 2003's Shadow Hearts. All of this hard work gradually built Caliban's following and certified them as one of the leading European purveyors of metallic hardcore, which, by then, had also made incredible strides across the pond thanks to bands they had influenced such as Shadows Fall and Killswitch Engage. In fact and rather ironically, Caliban's next effort, The Opposite from Within (2004), was wisely panned by critics for succumbing to parody of those very same bands they'd inspired; but the band recovered in time for 2006's The Undying Darkness, which saw longtime members Andy Dörner (vocals), Denis Schmidt (guitar/vocals), and Marc Görtz (guitar) joined by the former Six Reasons to Kill rhythm section of bassist Marco Schaller and drummer Patrick Grün. ~ Eduardo Rivadavia, Rovi
By far my favorite band, if you listen to their albums in order they chronologically get better. They have finally developed into their prime and their next album will be one of the best metal albums ever created...... F**kin love this band
Caliban is also the home world of the Dark Angels in the Warhammer 40,000 universe...As an avid 40k player I like to think they named themself after the planet. I did not know Caliban was from Shakespeare too...your probably right though.
@skonjie they are head over heels better than slayer, slayer has a frontman who sounds like he is dyslexic and has to think about what he says before saying it. not to mention claiban is heavier, faster, more melodic and way better musically trained... I really hate lame, musically ignorant/ intollerant slayer fans. I like slayer, but there is WAY more to experience out there.
So far, each song off the 'Shadow Hearts' album is awesome and the ones from 'The Awakening' blow donkey d*cks...how does a band change that drastically? I have the hello to tradegy, and it's pretty bad as well...they suck at being melodic...
Pandora, you are not doing Caliban justice. They have so many amazing albums like the undying darkness and say hello to tragedy. please get more albums on here!!!!!!!
well duh they're not good metal, they're a core band totally different genre. they're really awesome the music is amazing. need to put their new work up here
i really gotta give this band mega props great metal core in my top 5 fav bands!!! @ tyler all that remains can't touch caliban jus my opinion bro!

It says there are 7 cd's out by this band, and then there is one from 2007 that is'nt even on that list, so they have 8, and Pandora has only two?! Great job guys.
hmm.. I don't classify these guys as death core... Their music style isn't deathcore... They go acoustic and slow.. That's only allowable for metalcore.. So this can't be classified as deathcore... But this is still a good band..

And they aint Deathcore... . . I s n t "Deathcore" like Suicide Silence and JFACOWBOY AND S**T?
Caliban is better than any Deathcore band Ive heard, Deathcore is bit formulaic to me tho....
They have good music, and their name is a mix between 'California' and 'Taliban'.
its amazing<:
