This is the best song ever!! Greatest clarinet solo. EVER!! Every little clarinetist would be sitting in band or practicing in their room, and we have tried to do the slinky slide at least once in our musical life. So many memories. I had to crank it in the office. I might get jumped by my coworkers after work... so worth it!

I remember the first time I heard this - an extremely talented friend of a friend played it...and I hated it. Now I think I must have been crazy back then - cause now I love it.

Fabulous music! What a beautiful catalogue for the allot short lives of the Gershwin Brothers. Still wonderful music with so any gorgeous interpretati o n s . Bernstein is one of my favorites. But it's all good. You can't miss with this music!

I agree with you completely, joyhanin. I just adore Bolero, but I don't think music would have gone as far as it has without this rhapsody.

One of the greatest pieces of American classical music ever composed. It captures the essence of America through jazz and big band, within a classical context. For the first time, an American composer reckoned in the world of classical music. Ravel, the great French composer - you may know his famous, Bolero - just loved this piece and wished he could write this way. Th is Rhapsody - various genres and themes flowing into an out of each other, moving, rapturous, but always American!

That clarinet!!! :D So so very beautiful.

So far put of my time but still such a great piece that you can just sit down and really relate to.

I love how this song radiates glamor and luxury in some parts, fitting for an airline commercial :D

I just wish I could find a good reason to listen to it other than 'just because'. Not energetic enough for a videogame, not consistent or jazzy enough for dancing, not normal dancing at least, too long or inconsistent for overlall theme music.... Seems Fantasia or cleverly crafted silent movies of people being rich is about it :P

to finish my thought from last post; I have had to spell some of the words phoneticly. The thought is clear, I hope.

This is one of the few comoposition s that I will drop everything to listen to it. I first heard it in 1942 or 43. It has long been a favorite. However, one comment; this is not a song. It is a rhapsody; it covers many venues, keeping with a jazz genre. But, no matter what iti is called, it is marvelous. The first glissade was considered impossible to play on the clarinette, until G.W. wrote it. It is a signiture piece. Please excuse the misspelled words. I have had to spell some of the

You're on solid ground with your musical appreciation confession jazzlover200 1 . Since rap is not music because they are mutually exclusive terms. This is not to say that rap cannot be appreciated as rap for what it is. There is some good rap. Concerning Rhapsody in Blue this is an excellent version of a great piece of American music.

I like to close my eyes and feel the music. This piece, 1812 Overture, Peter and the wolf, they were the first pieces that I ever heard when I was very young. Now I appreciate all types of music except for rap.

*sigh* why do professional orchestras have to hate on Saxophones? we may be one of the more modern instruments, and me may be a easy to master hybrid of an instrument, but we can add soooo much to a composition. this one for instance, what's jazz without sax? don't get me wrong, this piece is still phenomenal. i'm just sayin', it'd be better if there were saxes in it. ^,^'

One of the great pieces of the 20th century. Inspirationa l and moving. I just miss the saxes that it was originally written for (the Paul Whiteman Orchestra.
