OOPS! It got away before the 'punch line'. Yeah, I grew up 'looking up' to those older guys because they didn't lose fights. And boy, could those guys fight. No guns, no knives, just fists. Bottom line: they all died of less than natural causes. Although they're dead, their 'legend' lives. I guess that makes them each 'The Winner'. Or does it?! dlc
I could listen to this song over and over. I asked myself why I like it so much. Then the answer occurred to me: I grew up in the most urban part of New Haven and all of the 'men of respect' were 'Winners'. 'Whitey' was a winner. 'Midgey' was a winner. 'Pinocchio' was a winner.
'The Winner' by Shel Silverstein. Of course. Who else?! "...my eyes still see and my nose still works and my teeth're still in my mouth. And y'know I guess that makes me the winner". Beautiful! dlc
Been in radio since 1963, I became addicted to pandora sometime ago, and they are the only place to even find Bobby Bare Sr./THE WINNER, must less hear it and buy the album! Sale my clothes mama, I'm going to heaven and I found part of it on PANDORA........!!!
